hey, just installed my stainless headers today onto my b18c and they sound very leaky and horrible. i needed to custom the exhaust a bit so i took it into a shop to do, so all quality gaskets and welds were done.. just wondering if anyone has had the same problems and any way to over come this? or did i just end up with a dodgey set of headers... they are brandless but were not el cheapo 100 dollar jobs...

this is the design of them

have you looked to see if there is any white smoke?

are they used or brand new? if brand new they should give off some white smoke.... cause they haven't been run in yet.

What did you use for the gasket between headers and cat?
Also what are those notches on the headers? are they blanking bolts or what cause if they are bolts and aren't welded closed then that could be causing the leak.

thanks for the reply, they welded a new flange that fits flush over the extension at the end of the headers that you can see plus a pipe that also fits flush over it using just a normal kind of gasket to join to the cat i dont know what material it is exactly but its not copper or metal. they are bolts that hold it together, they use the same design as this pic to join

they are brand new and i ran them with open headers for a good 10 minutes to run them in and they dont smoke anymore.

hey mate

if you can jack it up or hoist it up.. start the engine and feel around if theres any leaks (connecting to engine, if the welds have anyholes in them, connecting to the cat.. is your O2 sensor screwed in? lol had to ask anyway)

if its a bad leak then you'll feel it on idle

had the same problem.. but i knew i had leaks where it connects up.. welded it and all good now

ill throw it up on the hoist hopefully tomorow... i sprayed lots of wd40 in around the welds to check for any leaks around there but had no luck... all the bolts and studs in the head for the headers are all tight and all gaskets are brand new... also checking the flexy pipe tomorow due to it being completly raped from being on a low car and its bent a bit more then it used to be due to the new headers sitting lower... any other advice to check out for will be awesome.

The hytec copy headers dont have the best slip joints on them, but they normally will sound leaky when cold but then come good when they heat up and grab each other.

If that isnt the case, then pull them off and get exhaust silicone ( often red ) and put a smear on the faces and slip joints, this normally does the trick.

OMG.JAI xD

Mate.

I bought the EXACT same one.

The 4 joints that connect to the bottom piece dont line up properly.

They need to "bed in"
Drive it and itll eventually mould into place due to the heat.

Youll smell heaps of fuel like smell at first.

Its not elcheapo. Its just as good as hytech. Should see how badly my ones are banged up. Not 1 crack.
