Hey guys, i'm looking to buy an s2000, and i've found an alright one, but when I did a REVS check, I found out that it was a repairable write-off. I talked to the guy and he explained that he had bought it and done it up and everything checks out bar one. He said that he doesn't have a Log Book, but he's replaced the clutch and Gearbox about 3 months ago. My question is, if you buy a repairable write-off, do u not get a Log Book with it? And will Honda still service the car? And if they will, will it be more expensive? Oh and will this affect the insurance on the car? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Honda service? yes, you pay the money, they do the job. and i dun think they will charge you extra if everything goes right.
definitely, the write-off record will affect the insurance on the car...

IMO, i ll never touch a vehicle has write-off record, no matter how good the car looks now~

I wouldn't go near a repaired write-off for starters.
Log books, can be lost, miss placed with all cars write-off or not.
Honda will still service the car yes and no it wont be more expensive.
Im not sure if it will effect the insurance but id ask the insurance company just to be sure.

But like I said, I wouldn't go near a car that's been written off then repaired and even without logs or any solid information about the cars history, the write off could of been from hail damage but at the end of the day the choice is yours I would stay the hell away from this one.

I guess it'll be a pain in the behind if it does screw up, and the insurance is going to be over the top. Thanks for the advice guys, i guess i'll just keep looking.

This S2000 wasn't red by any chance was it?

No it was the silver one on carsales. It's up there for 27k. This one ---> Link (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7435803&__sid=121970C2BD58&__Qpb=true&Cr=13&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32 |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294964924%20898&seot=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=42&silo=1011)

27k for a repairable wirte off? that's too much, also you will be having a nightmare when it comes the time to re-sell....

.::F[L]Y::.
31-07-2009, 12:34 PM
27k for the silver one is a rip off. considering its a repairable write off with NO log books. Also it has 100k km on the clock. Factoring all this in I wouldnt give the guy anything over 22k considering the price for a straight 1999 model S2K with over 100k kms.....

Theres a nice white one for sale on here for 25k or so....check that out.

mate bought a 1 owner 99 silver/red s2k with 122km on it for $21,900

so i agree with you completely fly.

i'd go so far as saying. a repairable write off. without log book. crappy mods.

he'll be aiming at around the 20k mark

anyway did you ask what kinda accident history was the car involve in? 27K for a 99" seems kinda overpriced especially if it is a repairable write off.

mate.i went to the acutions and picked up a blue 2000 model s2000 that had only done 118,000kms and it had the OEM front lip, side skirts and rear lip spoiler.
i picked it up for $22,450 and it was a repo'd finance car.
serviced by honda every 10,000kms and has all the books and everything. 27k 4 a silver s2...is stupid..and it being a repairable write off. go away form it.
be patient bcuz there are plenty more good s2000s out there...in better colours lol

Oinking
03-08-2009, 11:08 AM
Yea, i'm gonna skip on that one completly. BTW, tamay_s2k, you said you got yours from the auction as a repo, could you let me know where and how you got yours. I'm interested in looking at every available avenue atm.

patsdc2 : Apparently there was a crash on the left door. I had a good look at it and has been done up nicely and the paint job was good too. The inside was missing clips, but yea, i just checked carsales again today and prices seem to be dropping slowly. I guess it's hard to sell a car now.

seriously, s2k is probably not the best first car to get. $$$$$ when something goes wrong or breaks, and seeing as there getting on a bit. It'll cost you some to maintain it too. Hopefully some good advice given.

Thanks JAP-S2K.
s2000 got the looks and f20c is so great~
actually Iv driven a ford focus for half year but wich is belong to my family.
dont really like the frount wheel drive car, so wanna buy a rear wheel drive one.
i was thiking about the s15 with non-turbo or s2k, but seems s2k is much better than.

tamay_s2k
04-08-2009, 07:04 PM
trust me. the s2000 is the way 2 go. its just a different drive altogether.
such excitement when you drive it, even shifting gears, heavy duty clutch standard, short shifter..and the sound of that vtec engine, especially when it goes past 6,000rpm.
not 2 mention the looks and the attention if packs on =]
my mate has a non turbo s15 and there quite sluggish, plus..why would you want a non turbo version of a turbo jap car, why not buy a car that is the best of its kind..instead of buying 1 which is a detuned baby of its older brother

C.L.
04-08-2009, 08:05 PM

having owned my fair share of a variety of cars I can say that the S2K has to be one of the top few cars I have owned. Putting things into perspective with the cars I have moved onto after the S its alot cheaper to run and maintain. also with more owners onboard parts are cheaper to buy than a couple of yrs back.

Even after owning 2 S2000's in the past I still contemplate of buying another one even though i have an r34 gtr sitting in the garage. Its just one of those cars i suppose, one of the last cars Honda got right before they started making stupid so called 'sports cars'...

yeah guess it's a better choice to look elsewhere. I realize it's not easy to sell s2k nowadays, perhaps many people are avoiding them as it's a two seater car and may not be as practical for a daily driving.

but going to put it up in carsales in summer

i'm not going to sell cheap like everyone else tho, will be aiming at the really high end of around 33kish, no need for me to sell so wont let it go cheap, such a nice car LOL

i sold my 01 yellow s2k 2 years ago. it had 117k km on it. i bought from new. had full body kit, full service history with ALL invoices (i honestly dont know how careless a person can be to misplace the service books that come with the car in a few years time, i keep it in the cargo net area or glovebox) i sold the car for $27k.
i would never touch a car that had a dubious history, if its missing service history, walk away

STAiN MASTER
08-08-2009, 09:08 PM
The cars history is I think what gives the car its value, you know where its been whats been done to it, services how well the owner has maintained and looked after the car.

Then when you go to look at the car, you can get some idea how fastidious the owner is by just speaking to them, let them talk ask important questions don't talk about crap, like for example I went to see a s2k and the owners husband goes "oh mate your going to love this engine it just revs so hard" so now I pretty much changed my mind about the car straight away even tho it was low km's with logs and walked out soon after, just from the car ad you read can give you a good indication about its owner and if its someone sensible and importantly someone you can deal with ease.

To me having the log books & two sets of keys is very important, if you can help it try not to go with a particular colour, I was after a white one for a long time but then as I was looking a silver one showed up with logs and low kms, widen your search I think with these cars being early 00 models its going to be hard to find the colour and good condition that your after.. just keep looking, have a look as many as you can and you'll be able to determine which one is a good one :)

yellows2k
08-08-2009, 09:39 PM
also, something that falls into the above category about the owner which could also be deemed politically incorrect, but to me, i would never buy a car from areas such bankstown from certain "demographic" groups that like to make their cars fully sik. but hey thats just me

oh wait, whats that u say, its missing the compliance plate but u can get one put back on tomorrow, ok we got a deal

I widened my search and now have a fabulous 01 yellow s2k with full log books and a 100kms on the clock. It's absolutely beautiful and the previous owner was a 21 year old kid who didn't know much about the car. I originally wanted a white one and after getting the run around from 3 owners I stopped and looked at the car and not the colour :D

Mikecivic78 : Nah, man, i didn't find out that it was a repairable write till after i did the revs check on it. It looked good and the guy was pushing it hard and since he had just changed the gear box and the clutch I thought that maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Hey Oinking - how is the car? were you too concerned about the kms being over 100? we are looking at a blue one atm with 98000kms on it but it's been fully serviced and has just had its major service. I know you say go the car not the colour, but the blue is really nice!

My 2000 red s2000 doesnt come with log book as well but the seller told me that i can go to Hondaone.com to check all the service history done by Honda service centre. Also i wont buy a s2k with a repairable write-off because it is too much problems after you bought it. Be patient and you will definitly find a good example with the budget you want.

The car's awesome, been taking it out on the weekends and i love it. Well, it's a massive change compared to my mum's corolla that i used to borrow >_>.

No the kms didn't really bother me since it was the best car in my price range. If u look around you can standardize the s2k and see if the price they are asking for is too much or too little. Well, in anycase i'm going to change the engine next year so i wasn't concerned to begin with :P

If you want send me a link to the car if it's on carsales or a similar site and i'll let u know how it fares.

Hey guys - so close to getting this car but get this...got a revs check done and 2 cars popped up on the revs certificate at the end...different vins, same engine number

Has anyone come across this before and what does this mean?

Contacted qld transport & they said it could be a mismatch, but both vehicles are Y2000 S2000s.

called the financial company & the interest is not on the car I'm gettin, but still makes me wonder about the identical engine nos.

any suggestions would be great as i'm so close to getting this one - sent it to GT auto - engine perfect

cheers guys

the engine could be from another car.. the car may have blown its old motor, bought this motor from another person..

try entering in the vin chassis without the DASH/hyphen/-
somecases, it causes a problem

how off is the VIN ? completely diff ? maybe you wrote it down wrong

n3pa

vin is correct, but the revs is bringing up two cars - weird coz this car is untouched (no mods) and is @ 70K with only 2 owners...

This situation happened on my other drive, RenaultSport Clio. When i did the Revs check, two cars pop up and one of then has interest on the car. I ring the insurance company and than found out that, the interest company put the wrong VIN number.

They fix it up after that.

Are there any other options beside spoon and if there are, where could i go to get some info on them? i'd say 'take it easy' coz putting in a Spoon engine aint easy (or cheap) especially if you are new to the car scene! should start off with Intake/Headers/Exhaust (or I/H/E) and an aftermarket ECU so u can get it tuned for those mods. see how you go from there. gotta take baby steps mate.. baby steps ;)

Would you believe if someone told you Spoon engine = stock motor?

Tw-38
02-09-2009, 10:55 PM
Yeah, engine mod is HUGE job and costly...specially if you haven't done any basic mod like I/H/E, suspention, chassis enhancment, aftermarket clutch, or ECU.

Car Modification is a step by step job. Without the list above, you simply cant run...or run worse than a stock one.

Your friends told you that go Spoon engine FTW but you can do a bit research on the Spoon's factory tuned s2k...The list of mod are more than one A4 page.
