There has been alot of questions on this forum regarding aftermarket HID otherwise known as xenon headlight kits and bulbs, regarding legality and fitting so i will try to cover the basics.

This should be used as a guide only, and i will take no responsability for errors or damage caused by anyone fitting HIDs.

Any type of HID not fitted to a vehicle from factory is deemed illegal by ADR (Australian Design Rules)..That means $100 ebay kits through to $1000 phillips kits.

Fitting HIDs to a reflector headlight could actually lessen your visibilty due to incorrect beaming of the bulbs and you will get a scattered beam.
Idealy projector headlights fare much better with aftermarket HIDs and give a nice straight even beam ,just like your original halogens did though much brighter.

Fitting to a late model vehicle is relatively easy, consisting of
1.connecting the ballasts to the bulbs.(this is quite easy ,seeing that the plugs are male to female).

2. Removing your original bulb and fitting the new compatable HID bulb in the factory location.

3.Using the spare plug ends of the bulb to plug into the factory bulb plug location (this is usually a red and black male wires that connects to the same colour oem female wires).

4.Mounting your ballasts in a secure underbonnet location near the headlight.

Switching the factory light switch in your car on, you should now have HID headlights.

If there is any type of jumping or flickering of the light beam, then a relay may need to be used in your power supply to address this issue.Note: This normally would happen in an older model car.

Hope this clears up a few things ..................
