Ok so I have an ek1 cxi and about a month ago i got a minor service done on my car. I asked the mechanic if there was anything else needed to be done and one main thing they said was i needed a front Brake Overhaul. They estimated $330. Just want to know if this is an ok price or am i being owned lol. Also if anyone can tell me what is involved (apart from brake fluid being flushed and new brake pads), that would be great, cheers. Also Im in adelaide so if anyone knows a decent mechanic, please let me know :D

pretty broad term 'overhaul' when I think of having an entire brake overhaul I would assume that youre mc is rooted along with all rotors (where applicable) and pads

for $330, he'd prob
flush the system $60
new front pads $150 + $100 labour
if he was machining the rotors as well youd be getting a bargain

as new rotors alone are $300 and up for decent ones

just for the front and maybe adjust the handbrake line and inspect the rear disc (where applicable) or drums

Thanks EK1.6LCIV for that. i guess that price then is ok.

on the receipt i got it where it says what needs to be done it says:
1.Brake Fluid Failed Testing-will be flushed when brake overhaul done. Front brake pads low 10% left. Recommend front brake overhaul-Estimated $330.

when was the last time you changed the brake fluid? has to be pretty old to fail their basic test

and 10% I wouldnt be driving it, nearly would be squealing if not already

book it in soon :)

thats new oem pads for the front, hardly expensive lol

If this is not a Honda dealer, I'm guessing that they would be using aftermarket pads and not OEM ones. Pricey for just a pad and fluid change.

wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole for daily pads

most workshops in Brisbane use only oem pads as bendix are crap...

Id rather Honda pads for their lifespan than jap race inspired pads
expensive how, I get a long lifespan and you'd be up to your second, possible third set of pads by the same time using mu or other brands, for street use

you'll always get people saying it's cheaper somewhere else, but at what cost, not having a warranty as they do it at home for example, lol

once you find a good shop just stick with them, that's a good price

the extra money left from what I said the quote was made up is the 10% gst for the labour and parts

perfectly reasonable

if you picked up the pads in person they'd be 130-150 new

It's not a honda dealer place but an RAA approved place. I don't want to go to a backyard/dodgy place but at the same time just don't want to be charged for too much. Thanks for the comments :)

anymore than the 70hr mark is too much, when Honda is $125
