Simple answer YES

Get a proper aftermarket ecu and tune it

to help you out..

- it WILL run your B16B as long as you use OBD2 Wiring.
- it will retain all On-Board-Diagnostic Functions.
- A B16B ECU would be more specifically optimised however the JDM ITR ECU will still be fairly close - VTEC switch point is lower and Rev-Limit is slightly lower than the B16B ECU.

The other posts are suggesting that an aftermarket ECU will be better - that is assuming you have a competant tuner. Aftermarket ECUs may or may not retain Diagnostics but (with a competant tuner) offer the ability to squeeze out every single pony as they dont need to retain emmissions and fuel ecconomy limitations etc.

So Basically, if you convert your OBD1 EG to OBD2 wiring harness etc, you can use the JDM ITR ECU to run the B16B... BUT if you get an aftermarket tunable ECU and a good tuner, you can gain more power than running the B16B on a JDM ITR or even an EK9 ECU.
