Hi I'm new here but love Honda's! Haven't got a car yet but my cousin offered me a manual 98 civic vti-r hatchback with 122,000kms for 12k. The car is completely stock except for a new CD/mp3 player. Good deal or not?

Sounds like a fairly decent idea, I know numerous people who have bought EK4's (yes, thats what your cousins VTIR is) and they've had great success with it.

Check it on REVS and check the service history though.

If all checks out, go for it.

Ignore Mikey btw.

Good idea, ownage shall happen.

And I'll get a good deal if he actually agrees :p He test drove it for me going like 140km/h in a 70 zone and it was so smooth, unexpected from a 11 year old car.. He wouldn't go into the VTEC rev zone though :(

wow not bad 140clicks in a 70 and no vtec must be a quick car!

i agree with that if ur willing to spend 12k on a vti-r i recomment buying a civic eg prob vti if u want a sunroof or if that doesnt bother you get a efi civic and theres a member selling a b16a on here for $3500 and from memory i think he wanted $700 for installation for for lets say 6g for a civic + $4200 for engine and installation you would have a quicker, (nicer imo) civic for $10200 but its up2u

Thanks for the welcome and info guys, haven't replied for so long cuz I've had a lot of tests for school. My dad said my brother's civic who had an engine conversion lost lots of its value and it was falling apart. idk if this is true but i've never seen it break down, the dashboard just rattles like crazy, you can see it bouncing up and down! xD I showed this car to my dad and he says its a good deal, what do you guys think? http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7522630&__sid=122C423CF676&__Qpb=true&Cr=1&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1|| pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&PriceTo=410&__N=1216%201247%201282%201252%201246%204294965322% 204294965250%201527%20904%201622%20410&seot=1&__No=15&__Nne=15&trecs=17&silo=1011
btw i don't think he will let me get a 10 year + car cuz he keeps saying it will cost me a fortune to fix the problems it will have... There goes the civic...

If you can pick up an EK for 8k, there is no way it's going to cost you the difference between the EK and that FA (6.5k!) in maintenance/problems.

I think you'd probably be better off finding a low KM's EK, especially if its your first car. Try not to get anything with an engine swap, as soon as it's had a heart transplant, you have no idea on the quality of the swap and whether it's going to be reliable or not.

I'd offer him $8k.

Do you have to buy from your cousin? I'd prefer to buy from someone who doesn't do 140kph during the test drive.

18-08-2009, 02:30 AM
Don't think i'd be able to get it anyway (dad). Still looking for a good deal! :D
Might consider a jazz vti-s because they look so nice :P but they are so expensive! >.<" I'm guessing they don't have much grunt either.. =\

They're not bad.

Plenty of overtaking power, maybe a bit sluggish in the low RPM, but so are all cars under 1.8L's.
