wow $599 is that the hole car or just a front a rear bars? lol

EK1.6LCIV
05-08-2009, 07:03 AM
lol 599 would barely touch the sides lol
for my front bumper, lip and rear licence plate surround that was 400 alone
side skirts 150
mirrors, side mouldings 200

for under a couple of grand I wouldnt expect alot

yourfather

dude, it says $599 full car resprays.

stop second guessing everyone, you already piss me off more than most people on here

just for that I'm going to go take a photo of the sign to shut you the **** up

500 lol!
Only get a bar done for that (professionally, top quality).

Ur gonna pay more for a full color change rather than a green respray.

My advice... learn to paint or save up a few grand!

Cheap jobs u get what u pay for. 6 months down the track it'll start to peel .

lol 599, you're car will look ass for that much cash

you ppl are nuts thinking 599 goes far enough to paint a car, lol mate I talk from expirence and having various ties in many local shops

for a proper job look at paying $3k for the right paint, primer, clear and labour

we have a car off the road atm getting a proper job just half of it done and it's around $2k with a few shades of pearl in the mix

haha europaint bayswater does $599 respray but they dont mention the extras, i went there to enquire about respraying my ek as well, all the extras literally added up to about 2,5k, thats with all the moulds, lips, mirrors colour coded with a nighthawk black pearl paint.

$599 was only to tip a bucket of paint over the car, so forget it

dt panels in springvale quoted me 2k for the lot, and they have good rep as all the skyline aus guys go to him. speak to vu

my 2 cents

lol, ass indeed

I know the right people whove been in the game for longer than a majority have been alive here, personally youd be high to go to a shop that hasnt been in place for at least a good decade

and yes I see the paint runs on all your blokes cars :)

I would hate to have to explain that shit to every excited customer that walked through the door.

its just bad avertising is what it is, which is why no decent bris shops can say $x per car painted, as it varies a great deal, alot more than normal non-techinically minded people can comprehend

Or 'Good advertising' as it gets people talking...

EK1.6LCIV
06-08-2009, 02:14 PM
the places I go to havent advertised since the early 80s, since then they do custom work and private sales, when youre good people do the talking as your work speaks for itself

not a poorly printed sign out the front of a shop with guys using rattle cans with poor ventilation and lack of filtration for incoming air

beeza
06-08-2009, 02:27 PM
Yeah, the cheapest way is to know someone (which makes me think - I would hate to be a car painter!! LOL).Do all the prep work ya-self,have the car and paint all there ready to go and he just comes in and sprays it.

So anyone a car painter?

materials alone cost a fortune these days let alone the labour.

2 pak paint, spray putty, body filler, abrasives, solvents, tag clothes, presol etc alone would cost $1k or so for a full respray on a civic so go figure.

unless you have a spray painter mate who works for someone and can "use" materials very cheap from work his boss paid for and doesnt charge you much for his labour dont expect it to be less than $2k for a half decent job.

unless you really love your car and have spend $$$ on it already
its really not worth it for a sake of a colour change
so you ek is worth 6k roughly
cost you 2-3k for a decent job is that amount worth it in the end
best to just sell it and get the colour you want
save the hassles and time

EK1.6LCIV

x2 to what Lan said
unless you have a car you like and will keep or have gotten for a good price to off load its not in your best interest.
please post pics of it if you do choose to respray :)

ha ha just for paint and clear it cost me just under 1k to paint my 200....

there is a group in forter doing resprays for $1500 including paint seen some of the work looks pretty good bit of a trip though.

if i was you i would prep the car yourself buy the paint and pay some one to paint it that way say 600-700 for paint and about $500 to get it sprayed in a booth by someone that knows what they are doing, as all the money is in the body work

Some good posts here, but basically with a respray, u get what u pay for. $500 (thats what some of u guys quoted) will give u a shit job (sorry 4 the language) U can pay up 2 $5-6k for a full professional job!

U get wot u pay 4. Period.

Just to know, here in Greece the cost of respray (same colour) varies from 1200 to 2000euros, which is very expensive.

paint isnt cheap, when I had my ek I got my bonnet resprayed, my front left guard, and had to have a scrape fixed and painted on the rear right guard just above the wheel. I think the total cost was like 1600 or something.

Are there any hire booths in Sydney or elsewhere you can access to paint DIY?
Up here in Brissy a few years ago there was a place that'd hire you the booth & compressor for the day or weekend all you needed was a gun and paint. (and prepped car of course)
I have toyed with the idea of doing a car but am not sure if they still operate. We figured 3 or 4 cars a day, full weekend would cost us nothing really.
