So clearly EM1's and EJ8's are different but what exactly are there differences apart from the tail lights, and also would the EM1 tail lights (red/clear) fit in the EJ8 or do i need a complete conversion to fit EM1 tail lights.

EM1 has a rear swaybar as standard. and it also has a b16a engine compared to the d16y8 in the EJ8. nicer rims on the EM1 as standard. the em1 has a different front end in terms of styling coz it was slightly updated. so headlights from a em1 wont fit on an ej8. em1's only come in manual

and no u dont need a conversion to change the tail lights.. just a straight swap.. tho they are rare as to find!!! i've given up lol

EDIT: corrected

EM1 interior is grey
The only interior that is black is the EK4 and EK9

EJ8 is only 96-98 (hence the preface-lift front)
EM1 came out 99-00 and there was an auto option (Civic Coupe Gli|) but it was not the B16a2 engine.

afaik EJ8 is made in japan and EM1 is made in america.

two options for the lights, DEPO (reproduced lights, small differences such as gaskets and plastic on the inside used, none of this is noticable on the outside) or OEM from Honda, they still sell them new for $250 a light

EM1's have rear discs where as the EJ8's have Drums?

Also I believe EJ8's come with Sunroof's automatically as with EM1's most do not (though there are some who the original owner chose as a option)

the front end is different (bar, lights, bonnet, gaurds)
the em1 taillights will fit directly onto ej8 which will make it look a heap better.

also refer to this thread for a lil more help

Correct.
The rear bar of sedan, coupe's are all the same throughout the years

false for the rear bar... they will fit but they are NOT the same.. the bottom of rear bear of coupes/sedans are different between facelift and prefacelift.

best example is this

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a253/qvu86/3767205125_61ff02a752_o.jpg
EJ8 = 96-98, D16Y8 SOHC VTEC
EM1= 99-00, B16A2 DOHC VTEC

each arrow and circle color contrast on both cars on the front end difference
also like to add ej8 came with thick side moldings, em1 thin

as for rear, tailights are both interchangable but rear bar's are the only different thing even though both look same, both different fitment not sure bout which sedan will fit 96-98 or 99-00

the rear bars will all "fit" but siff take a 96-98 sedan one with those ugly plastic strips haha. Mountings onto the car the rear bars are same, however they differ in shape at the bottom so need year specific lips

So EM1 rear bar can fit on an EJ8 ?

Yes Em1 rear bar (EK1 sedan 99-00 bumpers are the same) can fit EJ8

We need a sticky for this question so it doesnt keep popping up.

EM1 (99-00 Facelift) is the update of EJ8 (96-98 Pre-facelift)
differences are:
- front and rear bumpers
- tail lights
- headlights
- wheels
- both have grey interior
- interior trims
- seats
- engines (EM1 B16A2. EJ8 D16Y8)
- gear knob
- ej8 has rear drumbrakes, em1 has rear disc brakes
- ej8 moulds, rear numberplate holder and side skirts are unpainted. Em1 moulds, rear numberplate holder and side skirts are factory colour coded.

Rear bumpers and lights are interchangable. Front will require headlights, bonnet, bumper and grill.

Btw while im at it, might as well ask, for a stock ej8 front bumper would i need to cut it to fit a lip or just bolt it straight on ?

Agreed
some additions.
em1 has rear sway bar (13mm i think)
ej8 does not
the front swaybar sizes are different (26 vs 22mm but may be wrong)
spoilers are different (but i think they were dealer extras anyways)
em1 has front strut bar from factory, ej8 does not.

get a lip that is for 96-98 EK/EJ, it will bolt straight on

and EM1 does not have AUTO UP for power windows, EJ8 does for UP AND DOWN. if you want any EM1 parts on the EJ8, they are interchangable.

The 99-00 auto Civic Coupe GLi I think is an EJ6, is that correct? What is the engine code?

+1

ive been having issues with my power windows, first the drivers side mechanism broke so i had to get a new one, now the passenger side will come out of line if i hit a bump while its down... GRR

anyone else having this problem? is it because the window is larger (heavier) than other ek's?

theyre the same size as the hatches, same weights and everything lol
(Ive weighed them and checked tab distances etc, as I suspected at first my tab had come unaligned over time)

I actually traded a coupe window for a hatch one some time ago as I found it was a few mm's closer to one side on the tabs and didnt rub as much lol

There are AUTO B18c's so therefore It wouldn't strike it past me for there to be a AUTO EM1...
