Hey guys im currently a skyline owner and im coming out of the whole going fast idea and am selling up and wanting to buy a civic, that being said i dont want something guttless, so my question is, wat model should i look at if i want to spend around 5k bur dont want anything completly guttless (if there are faster models than others) please keep in mind i am a complete noob to civics and if anyone can hit me up with some first buyers info that would be awsome!!

Cheers

PS as i said im selling up my r33 gtst manual turbo skyline if anyones keen or trades with money my way! Just pm me! Ill also post a sale thread wiyh all the info if my priveleges allow me

welcome to the honda world,
with 5k, unfortunately you wont get much. with that budget and budget alone, you might be able to find a honda eg vti or honda eg si, compared to your skyline, there probably pretty gutless and generally arnt very powerful machines regardless, however, if your ready to buy engines do some modding and work on your civic, then youll be on your way. but as stated 5k alone wont get u very far.

if your willing to spend abit more (up to 10k ish) look into a ek4 (civic ek vti-r) not completely gutless and is decent ! but if your ready for modding, look into an eg or an ek (differnt shaped civics) and look into engine conversions , - b18c's(just over double your budget) or even k series ( around triple your budget +)

theres a stickied thread about all the base model civics in this forum, look them up, and use the search button for raw numbers on kw's and so on.

it has almost become the norm in the honda community to buy these hatchback civics to do these conversions, and make them more powerful, civics generally stock never were very fast. (other than type r's)

good luck

What's your reason for selling anyway? Fuel consumption? insurance?

as mentioned above, 5k isn't enough to get a faster civic unfortunately :(

5k ? eg breeze.

buy a front damaged eg from auctions, fix it and b16 it, might come up to around 6 grand

Guys, the OP isn't interested in 'going fast'. So if he can find a VTi EG for his budget, I think he might be happy with that.
But personally after buying it I think he'll catch the Honda Engine swap bug :D

[Ash CIVIC]
10-08-2009, 12:50 PM
5k would get you a EG Civic Vti
between 5k and 10k would get you EK Civic Vti-R (got looks & speed).

clutch
10-08-2009, 12:51 PM
Yea cheers guys for the love, no i dont care about speed or conversions, just not the slowest civic available lol, the faster of the slow ones if u catch me. I new that 5k isnt much but im not looking for much, im changing due to fuel consumption, insurance (i dont even have any cos its so exoencive :S) and just general stress like it getting scratched or stolen, bumps in the road, rocks etc

Ps it must be a manual lolol, hate autos :P

he said he doesnt want something gutless, vti is as gutless as a gli. there the same in a race pretty much. however these two have good fuel consumption

yeah well all egs are 1.3. 1.5 or 1.6 litre

known as d13, d15, d16. after this 1.8++ are all conversions done to the car.

$50ish at 1.20-1.30 p/l will get u a full tank and around 500km's!

vti's generally sel for around 4-6k so i think 5k is perfect. always haggle as usual!

good luck!

can someone explain to me the difference between - gl, gli and si? eg model?

ta! :D

hisoka
10-08-2009, 08:48 PM
gl carby, gli base model, si is 91~93 top model, twin cam engine.

just get anything except GL. get any fuel injected civic with good condition lol, dont worry about SI , VTI, and GLI, all pretty much the same. just vti has rear discs and rear sway bar , thats about it lol. there all slow

when you've only got 5K on the table and you want a Civic a VTi or Si is as Gutsy as you'll get.

i wouldnt say gutsy lol, its the same as gli pretty much, eg vti, vs eg gli head to head is like dead on the same. the only reason i would ever get them over a gli is sunroof and rear sway bar. or better condition in genral (paint etc etc)

lol petrol depends on how much u like to use vtec (although vtis dont have much kick in them but) but i would recommend vti simply because it has a sunroof if your not looking for speed theyr prob the way to go

On the fuel thing, I average 400-450 km out of 45L, best I've gotton out of a tank was 500-550km and that was alot of highway driving + not many high revs

I understand u, the nissans are hard to insure, and cost a lot to maintain. Hondas, however, make good everyday cheap bangers with some go. But my advice is- don't start at 5k... u cant get much for that. As some others have posted, 10k is a better starting budget. My advice is to get a Honda that already has a good engine to start with. The prelude 1994-2001 Vti-r, Integra dc2 vti-r or the old humble 1996-2000 vti-r Civic (This is what ive got). These cars are a good base to start with and are quite swift. Mods are endless and they will last many more Ks compared to their Nissan counterparts. Just find a clean one and u'll be rite.

I reckon u get what u pay 4. With vtec Hondas u gotta rev 2 get performance. If u wanna have a bit of fun, gotta chew some juice, but what compares to the feeling of redlining a B16B/B18C/H22A/K20 etc...? Priceless. Worth all the v-power that went into it.

Back 2 the point, ur economy is the economy of someone who likes vtec, so it's troubleshooting time bro ( if u dont rev it much).

They both look good in the ads. Have a look at both and check out (or have checked out by a good mech) everything, including paintwork, panels etc... car with good paintwork as well as good mechanically adds value to a car. Resprays arent cheap.

As far as motors go, output is fairly similar. However the older Eg civic is lighter, so it should accelerate faster.

The 1993 has almost 12 months rego on it, factor that into your price. Good luck :)

I used to own a 96 vti coupe, even though the 93 is a bit quicker (barely noticeble) , with the coupe u get more car. u get electric mirrors/windows, ABS brakes, passenger and driver airbags + better, more modern styling (interior and exterior). What do u want... style or a marginally faster acceleration? Go the Coupe, they are also a rare car. They are the onlyt AUDM Hondas built in America. As the owner of an EM1 coupe, i say g0 the Ej8 1997 coupe. Just make sure ur mechanic looks at it. Let me know what happens!

U can't compare to a b16, but the d16y8 makes 93kw compared to d16y4 88kw. I've had both and i can tell a bit of a diff... maybe its just a placebo effect or somethin'

yeah just get best condition car , thats what i would do too. ej8s are pretty clean cars overall. some odd shockers, but most of them cheap and clean
