Hi guys
Well after 6 weeks of waiting I will finally take delivery of my new Euro Luxury tomorrow afternoon.
As the car is my company car the car is being trucked to me so I wont have the benefit of going thru the car with the dealer.
Regarding breaking in my new CU2 Euro Luxury what do you guys recommend? I have heard that most new cars these days dont require as much of a break in?
Note that my drive from work to home is around 90kms (with 90% freeway). My intial thoughts are to vary my speed on the way home tomorrow as I think staying at a constant RPM isnt good and try to avoid sudden stops and hard acceleration. How many kms does it take for an engine to be ready to use "normally".
Appreciate your thoughts...

Hi
I have a manual CU2 Lux auto.
Honestly my personal opinion is my car had taken 10,000 kms to get really loose.
I was careful not to over rev it above 4000 kms.
After 5000 kms i began to get the revs up.
Look just go with your gut feeling and give it some herbs after youve done
a few thousand kays.
When it comes to your 10,000 kms ask them to replace the oil filter
as Honda do not replace the filter at this service.
Thats fairly dum azz coz all the fine micron metal filings from the motor will have accumulated in the filter, so you fill new oil and mix this crap
it doesnt make sense, like trying to trim your toenails with your teeth.
Anyhow best of luck with it you shouldnt have any problems.
The luxury is the way to go as come summer you got the beautiful sunroof..

I would drive gently for 10 minutes, and then use the mototune method. :)

I would take it easy for the first 20km, then start to open it up - 4000 to 6000 occasionally. Do the first 1000km as quick as you can as continual cold starts & short trips is hard on a new engine.

As my wife has just bought a new manual Civic VTI-L(300kms on it now)the same run in procedure would apply as the Euro.So you are saying every morning drive gently for 1st.10 mins.till the engine oil warms up then how?Whats the mototune method?

Have a read. Helps the rings seal better.

Long road trip with varying throttle is the best for the first 500k or so...but not reving it until 5000ks...well I wouldnt do that but thats just me because the rings need to bed in all the way up the chamber - where the reach at redline will cause over time (5000k shouldnt do it but I wouldnt risk it) a ridge and that ridge you never want to ask the rings to go OVER...so as an extreme eg you wouldnt want to run the Honda engine to 5000rpm for the first 30,000k and then rev it to redline, because you asking for a set of cracked rings.
Labouring is bad for a new engine also, so driving it in sport mode and even changing manually is best until run in. As said above avoid short runs if at all possible.
Cheers
