thought on fanswitch

Team, i was on JDMConcept.com.au and came across an item called a fanswitch. the description is it Reduces power loss caused from rising temperature by initiating earlier cooling fan operation.

1> now do you think an item like this should only be used for forced induction, or would it come in handy for N/A as well?

2> anyone have experience with this item? is it useless or useful? (like maybe during summer or so on)

the fan switch is used to kick in the electric fan of the radiator. all electric radiator fans need one. the one you have been lookin at is aftermarket, the fan would kick in at a lower temperature compared to OEM fan switch. this is commonly used for track duties so the car has a lesser chance of over heating.

the only down side to the lower temperature is for daily driving in cold weather. the engine would take longer to get to operating temp using more fuel and more emissions

You don't need it for Street use. The stock cooling system is more than capable.

Lower temp fan switches should only be used if there is a specific reason you want the fan to come on earlier. For a dedicated track car it is sometimes a good idea because the vehicle will be driven hard for extended periods of time. Maybe in older cars that are prone to running a bit hot or the fan kicks in a bit late etc, but in a normal street use car - unnecessary!

If the cooling system is not doing its job - a lower temp fan switch is not the answer!.

Some people are of the understanding that if a car (cooling system) runs cooler than normal it's a good thing. This is not the case!

Engines are designed (and tuned from factory) to run at specific temperatures. If the engine gets too hot it will fail, but if the engine runs alot colder than it is designed to then it may run rough and use excess fuel etc.
