2003 Accord Wheezing sound revisited [Archive]

hi guys
I recently put up a thread for my 2003 euro (auto) which made a kind of wheezing sound when it drove...thanks for all the answers and support...

I then went to a dealer and had it checked out...they said its normal and its the harmonic balancer near the timing chain or something thats making the noise and would cost 3k to fix..
btw my car has done about 130000km
I dont know if its the gearbox or engine...
it sounds like a mini supercharger when driving in the car....

Also where can i get it checked out other than dealers?

any thoughts or anyone with the same problem?

Why pay $3000 if it's normal? Why would they offer to fix something that is normal?

well they said its normal but if i wanted the sound to go then it would cost that much...its quite irritating when your driving on the freeway and you accelerate and it just has this buzzing sound...its quite loud too even when driving slow....

found out the problem...transmission makes sounds on 1st and second gear only...but changes fine...might consider rebuild later when it seizes :P

When was your ATF last changed?

dont know much about history of the car as i just bought it at 125000km..it drives completely fine...just has that supercharger noise when its in park and 1st and second gear...then its as quiet as a whistle...then when it drops back down to low gear the sound reappears...where can i get a second hand gearbox? thanks

i did an ATF change today and added some transmission treatment stuff too...didnt do much...noise still there...guess ill have to drive it till it breaks or i have enough money for a changeover...

If this is an auto box, just go get it serviced now before it gets worse and does more costly damage.

Do these trans use belts? If so they may be loose.

No belt on the trans.

I reckon this auto trans has never had its ATF changed and the car could have possibly been used for towing a heavy trailer. Does the car have a tow bar?

Since you change the ATF, do you know where the drain plug is in a 2004 euro?
