so, for this past year, ive been having a few problems with the box. especially in the morning, where its still abit cold, when i change into 2nd it always grinds, it also slips out of 2nd if i deccelerate then accelerate. I also grind everytime i hit 3rd. Now, i know a new g/box would be the best way to go, but for now im going to try some new gear fluid to see if it helps (i know it wont prevent it). I havent checked the level of oil in it lately, & to be quite honest, i dont think the mechanic has checked it either (3 months ago). The mech didnt even bother changing the gearbox oil, for the reasons mentioned above, they just said get another gearbox.
I am working on getting another gearbox, but also with that, i may aswell do the clutch & flywheel, so while i save my pennies for that, Im going to see what i can get with the box i have now...

It can be fixed properly...
You'll need the followingh based on your description.
2nd counter gear
1st ~ 2nd hub, ring & sleeve
3rd main gear
3rd ~ 4th hub, ring & sleeve
Countershaft nut
Check the main input & counter shaft bearings while you're at it.
When it's out, clean input shaft splines, replace clutch & bleed clutch fluid.

Ask for advice/recommendations, etc. If you read my topic thoroughly, you wouldnt have needed to post what you did...

Everything in your post are just statements, there's no question in there at all.
Your opening post basically says:
"I have gearbox problems, my mechanic says to get a new one, I'll put in new oil until I can save up for a gearbox + clutch"
No question at all.
Anyway, I've seen cars with similar problems to this, new gearbox oil will be a band-aid solution at best.
You could try changing gearbox oil but eventually it'll fail, might be a while but it'll happen eventually.

What GB oil are you going to use?
I've heard of Castrol Syntrax 75W90 may be good.

yeah, im looking at running a 75W90 oil, i have honda MTF in it now, but havent changed it for quite some time.
I do realise GB oil is indeed a 'band-aid' fix, so im looking for something thats light on the wallet aswell. Maybe penrite because they have oils that come in 2.5L...
You've been told the extent of the damage, and that the problem is more serious then an oil change, so why waste your cash on oil, address the problem, your mechanics did you a favour not charging you for oil as they realise its rooted it seems. :thumbdwn:

that's true. but if wanna do your own experimentation then go for a gearbox oil change, see if that helps. Once you do it let us know. Doesn't cost too much for a GB oil change.

My point exactly, otherwise i wouldnt have bothered...
