View Full Version : Vtec fell off
I used the search button but came up with way too many queries and I'm kind of in a rush to get to uni.
My vtec fell off, literally. It won't kick in. It may kick in sometimes but then it falls out again.
I was getting a wierd buzzing sound the other day when I gave it a hit and now realise it would have been the smaller cams not being able to spin at that rpm.
Does anyone know the reason/s for this and how to fix it?
My first thought is the solenoid, but could there be any other reason and how would you fix the solenoid? I just changed the sparkies and am going for a routine oil + oil filter change later today.
pretty sure its the Oil dre.. running low perhaps?
"sexc car" btw ;)
was that you? LMAO you have girly writing! why didn't you say hi!
Could be the oil, I'll get back to this thread after I do the oil

you need to check your oil pressure ( while driving and engaging VTEC ) to see what pressure yuou have and if the needle is fluctuating
best to have someone help you so you dont crash your car while looking at the oil guage
do you have a dent on your sump ?
Cars pretty high so i don't think I could have dented it I'll take a look at it. Thanks for the advice. If the oil pressure is low? what does that mean?

ECU won't let you engage vtec if the oil pressure isn't up to scratch because good pressure is needed to physically engage the system.
If pressure is good check for continuity on the vtec solonoid line from the ECU to the plug.
yes it will,
the ECU does not know what the oil pressure is, and only when VTEC kicks in ( if the car has a VTP ) it will look for oil pressure to determin if the VTS has engaed. If that part failed you will get code 22.
If the ECU cannot see the VTEC solenoid it will give code 21
with low oil pressure Vtec will still engage but soon drop out.

. If the oil pressure is low? what does that mean?
then you may need a new oil pump, or very low on oil.
and that is why you are the green block gangster. Bout to change the oil + filter. Using penrite(semi -synthetic) 10w 50 with OEM filter... is that ok guys?

does a dent on a sump affect oil pressure?

First of all i LOL'ed a little inside when i read "vtec fell off" just had this vision in my head of like the cam points for vtec etc just falling out of the car onto the road.
I've had this a few times in the past. Most of the time its due to low oil = Low oil pressure which fails Vtec to engage.
First check your oil if thats full then it could be oil pump as others have said. Also when removing my motor once for rebuild and putting it back in i forgot to attach either the speed sensor or one of the other sensors...i cant be 100% sure which one it was but it caused vtec also not to engage.

baw :( it's already in, next service i'll flush it out and try something else. Starting to get really unhappy with OEM FEO oil. Burns to quick and takes forever to warm up! My penrite warms up in 5mins, whereas with my FEO i'd be halfway to penrith before I'm at normal operating temperature -_-"
Thanks for all the help guys, it was the oil level as my oil change fixed it, however my oil wasn't that low? I think it was around the bottom dot or abit above (just came back from uni so oil would have still been a bit warm).
