Hey guys,

Car is due for a service this month and i thought, depending on the price, whether replacing the stock air filter with a k&n air filter is a cost effective option?

Rather then replacing the air filter every so often, just take it out and clean it and then put it back in....obviously it will take a few services for it to pay for itself.

Now with the air filter, the car will run richer but by how much? slightly? or allot? If so then fuel costs would go up and then that would be a negative for the k&n.

Opinions please.

note car is completely stock.

I would swap out for a k&n if I wasn't using comptech.

fuel consumption will be hardly noticeable, it will improve if anything.

if you are worried about cost, remember to factor in the recharge kit as well.

Won't run richer. There will be almost no difference between the stock filter and the K&N filter except for the oil that can coat the throttle body if you reoil it excessively.

OEM air filter approx.$60,changed every 40K so by 80H it has paid for itself.Car wont run richer. You will get marginal power increase over OEM filter but it'll be barely noticable.BTW i have Icebox with K&N.

I found a suprisingly noticeable difference going to K&N panel, but only after I copied the Icebox with my stock box

You'll get a slightly louder intake hiss (assuming your intake resonators are gone). But if you want induction sound get a pod intake over a panel.

i dont really care about induction noise or power gain or etc etc.

I just want value for money and at 60 odd dollars a service for an air filter.....i dont see it. I already have a recharge kit due to having a k&n in the motorbike so wont have to buy that.....just after the filter.

Now can anyone suggest a good store? ive seen them advertised on ebay for around 100.

Hmmmm nope it doesnt work out to be much cheaper at all. Not for the hassle of waiting for it to arrive from the states.

Theres someone else on ebay in NZ that sells these kits. 89 dollars + postage.....100 dollars.

Ask your local auto parts shop to order it in. I am in Sydney and use a particular self-owned shop who orders things in at a good price for me.

Scroll down. There are some at $43.62. Go and ask these guys how much postage is to Australia.
