Just simple question: In australia (or qld especially) is there any rules not to park car without plate number outside the house (eg:kerbside)? I live in rural area so there is no parking restriction (24hr), and i plan to cover my car as well.

Basicly the car has engine problem. While waiting to source for new engine, install etc, my mate just surrender the plate number and said the car got accident. He got some $$ back. So i think the car still under his name but without plate? Correct me if wrong.

if there are no parking restrictions and it isn't disrupting traffic i dont see what the problem is

maybe just put a wheel clamp on it so no body thinks someone just dumped the car and tows it away

my mates car had engine problems. he left it on the council strip of lawn at the front of his house. had it there for some time (2-6 months) and eventually the council towed it away.

had my housemate's car parked outside our house for about 2 months when he went back home for the hols... car didnt have rego plates, stolen by drunks as theres a pub just round the corner from my place. someone reported the car and we got a council note to say that if we didn't remove the car within a week it would get towed away. ended up pushing it into the garage only to have it towed away to the wreckers a month later for 50 bucks!

Put the car cover on and people will be less likely to complain and get it towed away.

if you ever got warning letter from council or strata then its illegal to park the car without the registration or plate number on their property. They have right to take the car from you because it happened to me. They towed away the car and i never get my car back since then unless if you park your car inside your property

That means actually is not allowed. But if lucky then people wudnt complaint and will be safe?

cheers for the help all rep points

Like arrong said put a cover on it, and it should be fine, all depends on your neighbors i reckon.

You could put made up plates "Traffic"

And just go up to it every weekend pretending to give it a clean. Just clean the windscreen or something, so the neighbours know that it is your car parked there. If they don't like it, at least they will tell you or leave a note in the mailbox instead of calling on the council.

That little piece of paper (that gives you permission) does.

joyride
21-08-2009, 01:07 PM
what piece of paper?

i once drove my old car with no license plates/no registration.
i got pulled over but i showed the police i was on my way to get it blue slipped. i had all the documentation including my engineers report. he didnt mind too much after i gave them to him.
theres no point putting TRAFFIC on your car if you dont have the correct documentation.

what piece of paper?

I believe (not sure if its still in place or not) that you can get permission from the RTA to drive your car to the nearest Blue Slip place (they send something out in the mail)

Used to be able to get it a few years ago.

Made life alot easier, you only get 1 day of permission.

If I can get it I will organise two (one in QLD one in SYD) So I can drive the next car home, lol

that is bullshit. if you are parked in a spot that has no parking restrictions they cannot just ask you to move it on.

it reminds me of these people who parked a couple of shit boxes in front of a holden dealership for months on end and they couldn't get them towed because they weren't in breach of any laws.

If your car isn't registered you can't park it on a public road.

In NSW I don't think you need any special permission to drive an unregistered car to an blue-slip inspection. It's up to you to get insurance for that drive though.

Im pretty sure in NSW your allowed to drive to and from a workshop/panel shop/RTA inspection (blue slip) for registration purposes. Im not sure about insurance cover, maybe you can get a cover note, dunno?

As far as I have heard if you call up X insurance company and get a Quote X days before hand its coverable.

Umm, if its NOT registered, which is isn't.. then technically the car hasnt paid its duty to stay on the road, thus if it is on any part of the councils road (which it is), it can be moved.

Sick of ppl going oh this is bs bla bla bla, without even looking at the actual rules.

It can be in your garage. no probs, as it is on your property, if its on the road, then its not on your property..

But really, its not going to do any harm, but if a neighbour wants to be an ass, he/she can report it and it will be towed away by the council to the yard..

Even a car, after a certain period of time (6 mnths I think), tha tstill has its plates on, the council has a right to take the plates, forfeit them to the RTA and tow the car away

Simply, if its not registered, it shouldn't be on the road

Yeah, what Chris said ^^^^

No rego means you have to have the vehicle stored on your property. It can't be on public land or public roads.

And, yes, in NSW, you are allowed to drive an unregistered vehicle DIRECTLY to an AVIS workshop for the purpose of a Blue Slip, to an Engineering facility for the purpose of getting an Engineer's Certificate, or to an RTA for the purpose of registering a vehicle.

When I picked up my import in Brisbane I drove it from the compliance workshop to Tweed Heads to the nearest RTA in NSW and registered it. The girl behind the counter said they got lots of imports in there so that was fantastic, she knew exactly what to do and I was in and out in 10 minutes. I then drove the car back to Sydney.

as long no one is driving the car while is not registered with no plates, then its no problem.

Put the car cover on and people will be less likely to complain and get it towed away.

This actually works.

There was a BMW convertible left on our street with a cover, and no one took any notice of it, I assumed someone had just bought a new car..., until it was said that the car had been stolen in a previous carjacking in the city a couple of weeks before.

Yeah my mate bought this dodgy Nissan Pintara for $300 years and years ago haha quite funny but his neighbours must of complained about it being on the road (it was unregoed) and had a towing notice from the council. So he moved it just inside the nature strip and they couldn't touch it..

A friend of mine kept an unregistered celica on the road under a car cover for months. I had one of my Integras out of rego for 1 day parked on the street (wasn't moving into the house for 1 more day so couldn't park off street) and someone called the police. No one will go snooping under a car cover to check if it's registered.

My unregistered car was parked in the street yesterday. I bought it a week ago and am waiting on Taillights to arrive so I can get engineers and rego. I live in the city in a townhouse, so I have no option but to park in the street. Someone drove straight into the side of it yesterday and ****ed it. Now it looks cheap from the outside with satin paint and small wheels, but if I was to drop it off at a shop for it's suspension work, the suspension bill alone would be almost 20k...

I reckon the insurance company is either going to say it's my fault and **** me over, or they'll value it at 1k and write it off.

Anyone know where I stand with a parked unrego'd car being hit by another driver? Before I go and put my foot in it with their insurance company? Need help asap.

it's uninsured, if someone hits it you'd be up for damages, council can and will have it towed away as it's illegal to leave unregoed cars around the streets

it's not just that, people will vandalise it, try and flog things from it if they see it there on the street for some time. A BMW was left not far from a mates in a nice street for a month and some clowns who got caught stole the wheels and studs one night, neighbourhood watch does work :)

best bet is to find a mate with a bit of land and cover it up there :)
