View Full Version : Suggestion for new users signing up

it seems lately users sign up onto ozhonda to ask 21 noob questions that have been covered numerous times, or, they come on trying to unload their junk as if its ebay,

perhaps we can have a peroid for example, a week, before a user is allowed to POST on ozhonda. so if they sign up on ozh on the 1st, they cannot post anything ( no replies, no new threads, nothing, until the 7th )

reasonind behind this, is new users google honda and find ozh, with the intention to sell their junk alot of the time, and ask questions to things they havent even bothered researching themselves,

if we introduce such a 'waiting' peroid, i beleive it will somewhat reduce these threads, as users will sign up, and during those 7 days, if they are truely keen on being apart of the ozh community, read, look around, and research whatever they need to know, and continue to do so after those 7 days,

from what ive found,m theres nothing wrong with the search system, sometimes it takes some time to figure out the best thing to type, but, 9/10 it produces results,
as opposed to users who sign up trying to sell immediately, or ask dumb questions that we cover every month because they're overly excited about getting a car.

heres a few examples

But then again that's the idea of Ozhonda. It's an information base where people can join to find out information. Some are lazy and end up copping sh*t for it.

If you see a thread you dont like, just ignore it...

The introduction of a waiting period will deter a few, but if they see a waiting period, they'll probably just wait... then make new threads to ask.

u notice something new users can actually advertise a car by simply saying im looking to buy this car. car ad.

MAYBE they shud be able to post replies and if it's threadworthy a user can report the post as distracting/offtopic and a mod can make a new thread out of it.

The ability to reply should be allowed.

imo, when a user signs up there needs to be a popup with links to:

-rules for selling shit ie. 90 days and PQ points
-FAQs
-searching

and when they try to post something pops up saying "have you used teh search button?"

you are totally right, ozhonda is about sharing information, learning, and educating each other as best we can. but my point does not stop or reduce this, it just filters out people who want to be spoon fed who dont bother searching and asking basic questions which we cover numerous times, and some of which are in FAQ area.

you may argue, just because its basic knowledge to such and such doesnt apply to everyone etc, again totally correct, but hence why we have a search button right? duplication of threads will always exist for as long as forums exist, but its the FAQ's that get re asked over and over again, so everyone on the forum covers them again and again and again, cause people dont know /too lazy/ too dumb to use the search function.

i guess i agree about the be able to post replies ! im sure there are plenty of people who sign up who already know alot about cars!

good point

ive always though this kinda question (one which exists right now someone asking an opinion on an eg) was a re worded version of " how much does xx cost / how much is my xxx worth "

if you (or anyone else) is on hondatech usa, perhaps u guys can see the next point im about to make,
ozh is imo quite a community, alot of people know each other in real life, and have made friends from here in real life, and ive met a tiny handful of you guys you are awsome people who i can say are good people and even friends, this in particular, community, is what seperates ozh from places like hondatech, where it has become a place where u leave a question, and get an answer, and move on - and i hope ozh stays this way yet always welcoming new memebers, filtering scammers who never send items that have been paid for, unloaders who sign up to sell and figure out they cant, and excited 16 year old kids who are about to buy their first car and not knwoing how to use the search function or educate themselves.

hell ,

even the yf and claymore beef is an entertaining part of ozhonda that u can only get in such a 'community'

initially, he owned himself by admitting that he went to a brothel to hook up with not one but two Korean chicks, the weekend just before his wedding.

It started when he commented that some random girl in the Asian chicks thread looked like one of the ones he ****ed.

A big fuss was made about it, hence my signature.

Layout needs to be revised with more emphasized stickies, preferably in flashing neon colours.

perhaps we can have a peroid for example, a week, before a user is allowed to POST on ozhonda. so if they sign up on ozh on the 1st, they cannot post anything ( no replies, no new threads, nothing, until the 7th )

My only issue with this is that genuine users who have a problem then miss out on being able to start a thread and hence deterring them from the site.

MAYBE they shud be able to post replies and if it's threadworthy a user can report the post as distracting/offtopic and a mod can make a new thread out of it.

Agreed. I'll have to think about it more because there's a fair bit more work involved in setting up the usergroups for this!

There is actually a message at the top of the forum index when a new user signs in telling them about the PQ points requirement ......... yet people still ask about it! lol

I think it is more about getting it into the mindset of the users. The first thing I do when I want an answer (on say some other forum I've never visited) is to search and look through the stickies.

theres always going to be ppl who dont read the T&C and find out the hard way from members/moderators. its the way of the internet.

i think the noob forum was created so new users can ask silly questions in there before they can make new threads in the rest of the forum?? is that still the case?

Yup that's still the case. As per the noob forum description:

Have a basic or 'noob' question? Then post it here or else it will end up being moved here. So either search first to save you time or ask here. Covers all models and turbo/na.
