The dealer is correct, the price of a MY09 Civic Type R (FN2R) is $41,990 from the dealer (new, that is excluding on-roads costs and what not). You could always opt for a second hand FN2R with low-kilometres which could usually save you a couple of thousand (however this may be hard to come by as you're after a MY09).
Also there are options (see: http://civictyper.honda.com.au/optional-extras.aspx) you can add to the FN2R which will subsequently add to the total cost of your FN2R.
However with the economic climate the way it is, you could probably bargain a little.
Good luck with your purchase!

Not to my knowledge, as I haven't heard or read of any problems with the 2002 EP3.

i used to drive the ep3 till i crashed it, its a great car with no problems. i've driven the my09 as well, i find that the ep3 is faster.
please correct me if im wrong, but i believe both cars have the same engine, however the my09 produces 1kw more but has a major weight disadvantage making the ep3 much quicker. so if ur considering both, i would recommend the ep3

The EP3R has a K20A engine it in and the FN2R has a K20Z engine in it.
