I have a Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd Amp, Alpine 15inch Type-r Sub and an Alpine IDA-X100. After putting all of this in my car and testing it out I noticed that the sub isn't as powerful as it should be. I had to set the gain to max on both headunit and sub to get a medium bass.

As I have tested my Amp with my brother's car\system. He has a different headunit and a Alpine 12inch Type-R and it sound great.

So I thought something might be wrong with my Sub so I tested the 12inch type-R sub in my car and I got the same problem.

I then had a mate come over and we tested the amp and sub on his car. He has the same headunit, but different Amp and Sub and now is he experiencing the same issue as I am.
Any Ideas?

i would say the amp isnt able to handle the low impedance of the sub woofers.
what is the impedance (measured in ohms) of yours and your mates sub woofer?
and then have a read if the amp can handle the impedance. there are some sub woofers that come in 2ohms also, make sure the amp can handle this.

is the phase right? mite sound like a stupid question. but just test if the wires are round the right way.

also as riruiz said. check impedance and what not. is it just not loud?

the gain isnt for volume control.. you changed the gain dial up to max, any reason for that? i reckon that has something to do with it.

mightve sounded fine in your brothers car cus the amp on max is matched with HIS HU, but not yours & your mates.

or could a simple polarity/phasing wiring issue.

do you & your brother have the exact same 15" type-r in the same box? same impedence? same car?

dont worry about comparing to your mates car cus you both have diff amps/subs/sub box/cars/etc. but dunno how he got infected with the same issue.. gain change?

is the sub second hand??? if so it may be damaged

hmm.

this is a tricky one.

by putting the amp in another car, and it working fine, that rules out a problem with the amp.

by putting a diff sub in your car and still getting problem, that rules out the sub being broken, so the only thing now is the headunit.

this is confirmed by putting the stuff in another car (that has no probs with diff gear) and now getting the problem again

so basically what that is telling us is that for some reason, the amp doesnt like that headunit.

ive got a feeling that the RCA preout voltage isnt high enough for your amp.

sounds like the two coils on the sub are wire incorrectly, one is in phase and the other is out of phase. if this is the case you will be very lucky if you havent fried the voice coils on the sub. if not sure take it to a store to have a look at it.
