- compression test
- oil leaks
- smooth gearbox shifting
- has it got lsd?
- colour of spark plugs - look also for excessive oil
- check cam seals and around vtec solenoid
- check oil pan not dented when moved around
- check all boots and busings
- check motor mounts
- check engine numbers to vin and not stolen
- water or creamy white colour under oil cap
- even better ask to take valve cover off and look at condition should look nice
- look where halfcut has been hit, try get something with rear damage
- cracks in block or gearbox housings
- axels straight
- damage to hoses
- leaky calipers
- leaky brake fluid running from master cylinder
- leaks around head gasket, power steering pump, valve cover, where axel connects to gearbox etc...
they would cover more than enough so far, you still may have to change many of the things like boots, mounts (rubber items) as they age, use it to bargain, just look for smooth gearbox changes, maybe best to change clutch, clutch bearing, isb bearing, timing belt, other belts, all fluids when you get the car, look for a cleanish cut.
