I've been searching for p plater laws in WA (on the dpi.wa.gov.au site) but I'm still not sure whether WA has any power restrictions for p platers. i just found a dc2r that i might buy and I'm worried whether or not i can legally drive it... Anyone know if there is any power restrictions in WA?

i believe there isnt a law in WA for that... since you dont really hear much "hoon" storys from there.
i just checked out that site and i couldn't find nor read anything about power restrictions for p platers.. i would go into your nearst department of transport and speak with them to be sure...
you dont have to buy a type r then found out you cant drive it then lose points and cop a huge bill

my cousin lives over in WA and is looking at his first car...to his knowledge P-Platers over there have no restrictions on power.
turbo, supercharged, v8 + and N/A v-tec power of a dc2r are all legal as far as I know over there...
read the website top to bottom and my cousin gave the transport office a call and seems you can drive anything on your P's.

Cool, I went for the inspection and test drive today. VTEC is sounds like a jet, my head hit the seat when it engaged! xD It's got so much power that I'm not allowed to get one now... =.=" The car is so nice though =/
My dad wants me to get a mazda 2 now but I'm convincing him to get me a colt ralliart. He doesn't know its got a turbo.. :P

Doesn't NSW have 125kw per tonne? DC2R's have 141kw and is around a tonne. So I don't think it would be legal, not sure though.

NSW doesn't have power-to-weight ratio.
NSW = No 8 cylinder cars, no forced induction (super/turbo) unless in exempted diesel cars, no modifications that require engineering and there's a list of high performance 6 cylinder cars that P-platers can't drive.
DC2R's are N/A 4-cylinder so they're fine.

I'm not even from WA, but while i was there I saw a dude driving an evo 8 MR on P's and another guy in a turbo s15. no power restrictions over there.
lol @ mazda2.
it's your first car mate, you should have a say ;) or is it being completely financed by D.A.D?

I'm paying 5k, mum is paying 5k and dads paying the rest :P
Since I cant get a type r, i found a gsi thats done 20,000km for $11k. sounds too good to be true so I'll have to check a lot of things on that car..

ahhh....I wouldn't pay more then 5k for a GSI with that many k's (but thats me)
Do yourself a favour, buy something like a ek4, won't need anything other then some suspension (IMO)

The gsi has only done 20,000kms, yes 20,000 not a typo.. I wanted to get a ek4, but every one I showed my dad, he says the car is too old, it will cost a fortune to service and fix even tho its done low kms... He thinks he knows everything :thumbdwn:

Sorry mate (read that wrong, look at the time of the post, lol, thought it was 200,000)
GSI is the same (well, around about) age as EK4 (therefore a GSI is 'too old')

The gsi is 2000, the civic was 1998. He's already trying to convince me to get a mazda 2 or corolla ascent.. He almost yelled at me for showing him a 1996 civic.. So I guess the latest car I can get is like 2000?
The gsi thats only done 20,000kms, the guy says he bought it from a dealer 5 months ago and still has dealer warranty. Can i go to the dealer and ask about the cars mileage? Seems a bit suss cuz its got such low mileage.. The story I got is "owner left over seas for many years, i am second owner that bought from licensed dealer so mileage cannot be cheated".
buy a GSi - learn how to drive before you buy a Type R.. seen so many Type R's written off by inexperienced P-platers over the years :(
tell your dad you can kill yourself just as quickly in a GSi as a Type R :)
or
get a job and buy your first car yourself then they have no say.
and FYI I'm daily driving a 21 year old Honda and as long as you service them regularally etc there is no problem.

And this is when an un-restricted person doing a b18cR eg projects comes in the scene and say..... Part out the Recaros???? SHOTGUN ENGINE!... LSD still available?
It sounds like the car you're getting is really your dad's car that he lets you borrow all the time. =). Because he just wants you to be a decent driver and not the hoons that your dad hears from the news.
Or maybe he thinks you might spend sh!t load of money on a GSI. buying clear tail lights and chromies with sick ass wavy wavy kits to pick up chiks.
I wouldn't let my son either. Son... heres a dc2 with a boosted k24 instead and go brothels. har har har
Buy the car he wanted and practice driving for atleast 6 months or a year, then your dad may trust you after.

He already has a 2004 tarago. So funny when he said "of course my tarago has more power than that integra type r. I've got 2.4l, whats that? 1.8l" Test drive showed different results :p
He says once I buy a car, I can't get different car until I finish university so of course I am going to try get a car that I like and will enjoy driving. And no i don't want to rice up my future car xD. Most visual mods I'll do to a gsi is to put on a type r bodykit and wing with type r rims. Type R's look heaps nice stock.

Mate, just get a Type R.
You'll regret it otherwise, lol
OR get a old shitter (to get you from A-B without major issues) for under 5k and save your money for a ITR and do a epic build

damn son..how old are you? 17?
it's good that your parents want you to study hard and focus on school, but i think part time jobs to help contribute to your car can be a real good thing. I just finished year 12 last year and maintained a part time job as well as dj-ing clubs and odd spots on weekends and got on with vce fine. It's good to have a balance and helping to fund part of..if not all of your first car..is a really great feeling!
try and get your parents to compromise with you, so you can get something you like which is also safe and meets all their requirements for a first car. at the end of the day its YOU who has to drive it around "until you finish uni" as you say...i think in that case you should definitely have a say.
DC2r may be quite a stretch for most reasonable parents buying a first car and i can totally understand that haha, so maybe look at a 2000+ civic or something. for the type r dc2 price range you could look at a base model dc5 teggy even?
OR....buy a boat like me and your parents will have no concerns about you getting into any trouble lol.
good luck mate!

Thanks for the advice mate. I just got a quote for insurance of a dc2r, it costs $2400 annually!! *faints* So I guess no way for me to get a type r:thumbdwn: I like the look of the 2005 civic but I read that they aren't really fun to drive? I found a 2002 dc5 special edition for a decent price b4, but the guy didn't reply my sms or emails so i'm guessing its sold already. I'll see what I think of the gsi when I inspect it! Hopefully its not faked km's or theres money owing on it:cool:

20,000 Kms for a Dc2??? i think its a good to be true... they prolly just used the car going to the local carwash and back to garage!
but if its true... and this is the case of th 20,000kms, then go for it! HONDA is durable in anyway......
You'd prolly finish uni by the time you reach a timing belt replacement lolz.

if you're in the market for that kind of price range 10K - 15K i wouldn't bother looking at a GSI DC2...if you can afford get something a bit newer or a VTI-R, bit more fun to drive.
02 DC5 might be what you're after, its relatively new, safe, looks great and im sure your parents would approve...
let us know how you go!

Just dodged a lemon. The gsi has been crashed at the front and the back and the repair job wasnt rly good. I think the car used to be red, its blue now.. The engine is leaking oil and the odometer has been tampered with cuz the gear knob was really worn out and the guy used a cover over the steering wheel.. Its been badly maintained too.. Lucky I had a pro with me~! xD
