Hey guys,

I wasn't exactly sure where to put this so I'll put it here.

Okay so I'm looking to buy a first car and thought a CRX would be the way to go. I found a good looking one and decided I'd take a look.

Here is the link off Car Sales:

Anyway, I took a mate along who knows a bit about the mechanical side of things to look it over for me.

First off, I asked if there was any rust and he said "None, it's rust free". My friend had a look at the sun-roof (not the glass one) and notice several rust bubbles starting to form. Then when my mate asked about them he kind of just shrugged it off like it was nothing.
He started it up and there was a load squeaking noise for about 3-4 seconds, which my mate thinks was the fan belt. He reversed back from where the car was parked all day and there were no signs on any leaks or anything.
After the squeaking stopped there were no other noises that seemed out of the ordinary.
The guy then took my for a test drive which seemed alright, and I was quite pleased.
When we got back, my mate noticed quite a large crack in the windshield and that the left tail light wasn't working, which the guy hadn't mentioned at the start. He said that he would ring the insurance company and get the windshield replaced for nothing though if I put a deposit down.

When we asked about road worthy he said it doesn't come with one and his only answer was that he doesn't have the time to get it done and he can't be stuffed which was rather suspicious. My friend tried to talk further about it but the guy wasn't interested in even obtaining one which lead us to believe that there might be more wrong with the car than just the crack and the tail light.

The inside was very clean, everything seemed to work fine, all the electrics seemed to work etc.

He also said that it came with 9-10 months rego, but don't you need the RWC to sell it with rego?

Anyway, that's about it, I think I've mentioned everything.

I just want to see what you guys think about it.

Thanks.

You don't need a RWC to 'sell' it with rego, but you DO need a RWC to transfer it into your name (so it's can't actually be bought per-say).

Your link doesn't work. Can you help me narrow the search?

Yo,

Stay the **** away from that one. That Asian dude is a dodgy prick. I went to look at that car in March '08 and he's just slippery as hell. I rocked up early to see if he was doing a last-minute clean and sure enough he was. The Momo rims are cracked in the middle, there's a dent on the driver's front guard, he's been driving it so the KMs are much higher than advertised, and he won't let YOU take it for a test drive, not to mention without him in it. And yeah it's starting to rust.

Also, $9,500 is WAY too much.

If you want a nice CRX then gimme a PM. There's a few good ones for sale on our forums at www.crxaustralia.com

A very clean EF7 (JDM D16A8) for sale at $4,500 with 190k KMs on it, very well maintained. Also we have a glasstop EF8 (JDM B16A) for sale with 168k KMs and the basic I/H/E and some sussy mods - $9,000.

Don't go near that friggin' one...

Oh, and if you're interested in freighting one down from QLD we have another EF8 with some great tasteful mods for a freakishly low $4000.
