Okay so a certain popular honda dealer/service centre whom I've always taken my car too tried to charge me $420 for a particular service, all the while giving reasons that sounded totally whack to me, let me know if you think this is legit..

My car was due in for a 56k service (odometer now reads 70k :mad), only came back recently from o/seas to find out my wife never serviced the car. So I called my "usual" service place, explained my situation only to have the lady say i will need to make up two services and wanted to charge me $420 cause i had missed the 60k. She justified the cost by saying it will be a lot more work doing 2 services and that they will stamp the book twice for what i've missed. Which totally threw me out of whack because they are both minor services (60k and 70k) She quoted me $285 for the 70k service.

When i explained the only difference between the two services was a oil filter replacement and brake fluid change she was still adamant that it would cost $420. When I asked what if I only wanted to do the one service and not have my book stamped twice for the service i missed she said it would still cost $420 because that including "stuff" i'll be missing.

Does this seem right to you guys? Especially as Eastern Honda quoted me only $230 for a 70k service and that was only the first place I have rang. Do i really need to make up a service? Doesn't it just make more sense to do the 70k service by itself? Does brake fluid and oil filter cost $135? Also funny how it jumped up from $270 the day before to $285 today for the 70k service..

Would appreciate any input..

Have only been taking it to this particular place because of all the positive feedback i've read on this forum

I agree. Tell the service bitch to stick it or watch them drain your oil twice. I know what I'd do.

Shit hang on yeah Brake fluid flush cost about $100 on its own. So effectively your doing a 60k which is minor + brake fluid change. Still seems expensive to me, just ask for a 70k from another dealer and then ask how much extra for brake fluid flush.

If your out of warranty I wouldnt worry to much about catching up. Its not going to really increase the sale value of your car, 14k isnt extreme punishment on your car.

Just called Eastern Honda and they said best thing to do was just do a 60k service which is all you really need as it combines both aspects then wanted $460 for it..

This included $84 for a pollen filter? is this something you need at 60k?

I guess it all comes down to the price of a 60k service and what dealer service centers are charging. Looks like they may have been alright I mean they were willing to stamp it twice too. Then again I see some people only paying $299 for a 60k service..

anyone recommend a trustworthy reputable honda dealer service center in melb? I don't mind the drive (i live in doncaster) just sick of getting absolutely ripped.

pollen filter is a optional thing imo if your aircon stinks then get it changed, take it out and dust it out yourself, or buy one which does the same job at around 40.

Not sure which dealer you're referring to but if you live in doncaster i can guess which one.. my friends and i use to get our civics service there.. once burnt .. never again.. i wouldn't even trust them with a hyundai :p

one time they put the wrong spark plugs into my mates civic, it was always having ignition problems.. my mate had to take his car there on two different occasions until they figured out the problem..

i get my serviced at the heidelberg honda, i've only been with them once.. no problems, and standard price, people were nice.. well only one complain.. one of tires valve cap was missing, when a lady from honda called me to get feedback of the car service, they were suppose to send me a valve cap... i have yet to see this...

I don't see a problem with naming them, you have said nothing bad about them.

Brake fluid flush is over $100. Sounds resonable to me.

Call up another dealer and ask for a quote, explaining that you have just come back from a business trip and missed the 60k service because your wife was driving the car. Tell them you have 70k now. See how much they quote you.

i had something of a similar scenario...
i bought the car at 70k, but the book says it missed the last 60k service. Rang the local honda, and they charged me the extra filter i think on top of the normal service and labour. They stamped both the pages 60k & 70k.

Looks like she's ripping you off. Call another dealer.
I've now started to do minor servicing with Mitsubishi. They provide a much better service than Honda..IMO.

dont mean to hijack

but while we're on the topic of servicing, im also due for a 50k service.

I have a family friend whos a mechanic, but he specialises in toyota. Can i still get him to do a service? or does it have to be the dealers or some "certified" mechanic? will him doing it void my warranty? im sure he will stamp my log book etc

it just seems ridiculous the prices they are charging, when i can get the exact same thing done through connections for half price. Im just concerned about warranty

You can as long as he follows the log book servicing items.

Helps if he is a registered business as well and not a backyard job.

Look as good as honda's are, for the most part they arnt that different from other cars. Oil still goes in, drains out...filters...belts. For the most part thats all that is ever done at servicing right? unless you are having engine light problems....

As long as the service you are getting from another company follows the servicing book set up by honda then your warranty should not be void. Heck i even called up the honda dealer where i bought the car from to ask about this and he told me as long as everything is done to the letter, then there shouldnt be a problem with warranty.

Any registered mechanic can stamp the book. you still have to use honda stuff for service to keep warranty though. From Honda Australia.....
I had to use different mechanic up in Port Hedland. Nearest dealer was like 1000kms away.
