This is an Ignition Control Module and coil from a d16y4.Could someone please tell me if the green wire is positive or negative, cheers!

99% of the time black is the negative wire

Forsure aye, that's what I reckon too!

I just fried 2 ICM's though and dont want to fry another...so I need to be 100% on this, cheers mate!

got a multimeter beez?

just see which terminal on the coil gives a lower resistance reading to the HT post with spring in the middle of coil there, lower reading= positive terminal.
will only be like 0.7ohms difference,so double check u have right one, even triple check lol.

oh btw,if u get oem coil,u will not have these problems & will still have same amount of power if not more & more reliabilty from motor lol

also lol,"black"/yellow is positive on various dizzys & yellow/"green" is negative,so be careful

Thank U,I do! Do I put the negative on the spring and positive on each of the terminals?

Where's the fun in that!? :p

resistance aint polarity sensitive, just hold one probe on the HT terminal with spring, then test each of the other 2 terminals with the other probe, the lowest reading is positive(remember its only about 0.7ohms difference on top of about a 15,000ohm reading,so i hope your multi is capable of that sort of sensitivity)

its no fun sitting in the pits with your car immobile because of ignition issues while all your mates with stock coils are lapping reliably all day, every day.
no fun getting passed down the straight by equivalent car with stock coil either

No worries,I'll give that a go,I'm not 100% with it though...

I was runnin' the crane cams LX91 coil in my car for 2 years until I had issues somewhere...I know now dodgy wiring was involved,so I fixed that.I hope that was the only problem,I will know after a month or so.

I certainly feel your pain CRX'er and I can relate to it but I always gotta learn the hard way - Its what I DO Man :p

alternatively,
work out which is the positive wire going to your dizzy(will be the fat one, usually black/yellow),
then with multimeter, test which terminal on the ignitor gives continuity(low resistance) to the pin where positive wire goes into ignitor.

then u will know what colour wire in pic above is positive, think it will be black somehow, but i could be wrong.

Hmmm,I'm not confident with that...

I might ring honda tomorrow and ask em'..

Thank U!

Honda had a great suggestion, take it to an auto electrician.I just happen to know one good one!

:)

I dont wanna blow this ICM or I will kick something hard and hurt my toe :p

lol
how did i know that honda wouldnt know......

ask john,beez,he prob would know

Yeah I spoke to John,he wasnt 100% and was gonna see if he could find a manual.I do have a manual and will check it when I go home tonight.

I didn't say last night but I always keep the stock dizzy cap and coil in the car in put in if the MSD shats itself and a spare ICM too,so that's good piece of mind.

MSD I can feel the pain of sitting in the pits while ya mates are lapping like ya said.I was thinking about it last night.I feel ya pain.So damn frustrating.

I still remember the difference the MSD system made on my auto.First I was on stock ignition system for 1 year then I had the system connected for 2 years then it was disconnected for the last 6 months.2 weeks ago I had it connected for a week and when I got in the car and put my foot on the accelerator I felt that exact same feeling I felt when I first put it in - SMOOTH,Mmmm nice,it just felt smoother, there's no other word I can think to describe it.

Can U relate to this CRX'er?

So you're running an ext coil ignition setup on the Y4, but what dizzy cap did ya use mate?

The stock cap,I modified it with the 'MSD tower'

I will putting up a DIY on the MSD system real soon.

I went to my auto electrician and he said he can tell which one is positive and which is negative!

So I'll hook the stock system up and drive there :)

Black was positive and green negative. No wonder I buggered it up!

I don't see how you could stuff 2.. its 50/50 chance of getting it right so i would have thought you'd do the opposite the second time :P
Good to hear you got it fixed up :)

haha, you would think so wouldn't ya.I didn't even know it was the ICM cause I hooked the whole system up then fired it up,no go,tried the other ICM,then realised it must have been the I put the wires the wrong way round on the ICM,Doh! idiot!
