Hi guys,
This is my first post :)
I'm a VTec Noob
OK from what I can gather I've got a VTec SOHC D16Y Engine
I have a 1993 built 1994 compliance Honda Civic 3D hatchback 93k on the clock
If I’m wrong plz let me know as l only started reading about this stuff tonight
OK what’s the cheapest way go get more power if any?
i.e after market ECU maybe but costly right?
How much more power dose an after market ECU give anyway?
Thx LukeZen

the car u have must be a " d16y*" SOHC vtec . . . good for 96kw.
The cheapest mods to get any "power" woudl be this - Intake , exhaust and timing . Please research more - IE search this website too !
Welcome BTW.
no such thing as B16y1 lol
Its D16Y1 and i assume ur car is a VTi.
At least you called it VTEC and not V-TEC
Anyways congrats to ur new rides.!! :D
BTW your engine isnt a real performer, more towards fuel enconomy.
So a ECU wouldnt be worth while to purchase unless u boost it :D

93k?!!? dude!! thats nuts low...are you sure the kms a gen-u-wine?
Basic Cheapest way to get more power = Air Filter + full Exhaust
I'd go aftermarket ecu only after I change those
Have fun..

oo so its a VTi, maybe swap in a b18a?? that will give you the most power gain for your buck...i think, cos you already have most of the running gear ie its not carby so can just swap right in right?
Let me be the first to welcome you to this forum. Lots of great information on this website.
First.. update your profile to show where you are, there are alot of EG (what generation of car you have) drivers from each state that are willing to help you out and even meet up for a cruise.
2nd. spell CIVIC right in your profile! that could be a start.
3rd. People hate having to repeat themselves on any forum so its strongly advised that use the search function on this website to find the information you are looking for becasue it has been covered before.
4th. It really sounds to me you have no idea about your car at all, so i dont think you should be comtemplating modifying it. JUST yet.
and lastly.. SEARCH, READ, SEARCH, READ... thats the only way your going to learn anything and trust me your goiing to benefit in the future because you dont waste your money.
But welcome to the forum.. just try starting with a search on what car you actually have. Can be as simple as Civic Vti. But i can you that the engine code you have is either a once off from Honda or they simply do not exsist. Btw your engine code should start with D, and someone with an eg will tell you what it is soon.
WELCOME and ENJOY
Well never mind about being the first.. i just type slow... :)

As a newcomer - PLEASE do not get the impression that you need an camshaft configuration acronym written on your camcover to be "accepted" and FASST.
Vtec SOHC non-btec whatever...its the DRIVER not the car :)
BTW i love the lil EG shape too :)

B18a?? From a DA integra, circa 1990, 108kw...
Well, yeah, more power fo you.....
I suspect you mean a B18C - 1.8 DOHC VTEC from DC series VTiR integra - sure, go for it -the conversion packages are few and far between - infact, they are almost impossible to find. Same goes for the Type R engine conversion packs - almost non existant at the moment
The only place I think you will find a B18C conversion would be Good Performance Centre.... Hontoys if you're lucky
welcome make sure the timing belt has been done, and ur almost at clutch time also. if thesehave already been taken car of its was a decent deal pending condition of interior :)

Nan was thinking of the DOHC ver of my car B16A?

D16a - has 96kw as well, but (personally) I think it is a much nicer engine - found in the Si civics. However, ebing oder, they are often with higher kms....

9500 seems a bit pricey, but I'm not sure how to value the low kms...my friend found a 94 vti with 151ks for 6500

I pay that coze if low K's and its stock right down to the tape deck :)
If figure there’s no way it will have been thrashed :o
Im lookking at getting this
http://www.alldayperformance.com.au/prod733.htm
what do you think?
Depnding on how u set it up, it may make u lose power, than gaining it.
I suggest u research more, you seem ot randomly wanting to get many parts at impulse.

Hm I thought the first thing everyone did was get new Air Intake?

well now the brand of air intake and the type of air intake matters too...
since we are driving NA, just changing the filter won't do jack, you need at least a short ram, or better still a Cold Air Induction kit, and that being said, different brands costs vary as well as their performance, you really need to do some research and thinking otherwise you could be making some costly mistakes... and of course there's the slight possibility of losing power inthe case of getting exhaust (too big and you lose power because of compression or somthing like that)
I don't think you'd be wanting to change/swap the engine tho, the premium you paid for the low kms makes it unviable (ie if you wanted the swap it you'd have bought a thrashed one for like 4k, threw out the engine, spend another 4k swapping a b18 in)

Yeah Im keeping this engine for a few years or till I kill it :D
But the above link is a Cold Air Induction kit including a filter
As for the exhaust compression 2" is about right from what i've read so far?
get 2.25"
seach for jords car. that sohc vtec he has goes hard! btw, try redefining ur searches - opening up the search criteria. try a search for 'ecu' 'exhaust size' and 'td04' u will get alot more hits.

That looks more like a short ram but i may be wrong, a CAI usually extends to the bottom of the car, it is exposed to open air, not in the engine bay..

naaa 4dr.... took 1 yr to find..... hed to drive my EF with 324,000 ks on it.
it was owned by a female judge.. and judging the the radio pre-set (abc classic fm) and the tapes she left under the seat (all clasical) i dont think she thrashed the car.
Full logbooks. always serviced by dealer
Have a look at my thread. i think u will find K's dont matter when ur under 200k, its the amount of care taken in servicing and running it that makes the difference. if my mum and sister are the judge of anything, they think 10-15k services are as good as it gets and the only time the bonnet needs opening.
