get them prepped...then get them electroplated. IE the same as the picture you just linked.

i just use autosol on my fat fives and they come up nice

autoglym is the best off the shelf product you will find, other than that u can try mothers or maguires, i get all mine at auto1

using autosol or what not will not get your wheels as per the picture. at the most, with sanding, a shiny 'stainless steel' finish like this:

u need to get it electroplated as per bens suggestion

FoReal Jeff?

Didn't you have a DIY?

SiReal
08-09-2009, 11:11 PM
yeah it wasnt a DIY as such but u go with diff grits of sandpaper, the last being the finest. then u finish it with autosol.

if u wanna make it chrome like above, it needs to be dipped. othewise, just sandpaper and polish no stop to give it that metal polished look.

your BB6 wheels are polished already. there really isnt too much point working on them to be honest.

why didn't you buff/polish it? the rocker cover that is.

I know, was just spamming in a constructive way Jeff.

Chrome dipping or as Ben and Jeff further pointed out is your only option for that effect.

its pretty hard to get a 'pro' finish doing it on your own. you could pay someone to do it for you , but wheres the satisfaction in that ? :) P.s. thats the hong kong flag

u can ask a bike shop to dip the wheels to chrome

MWAKU
08-09-2009, 11:25 PM
how much does that cost?

yeah you know hw the bb6 stockies are alrdy polished, should i just go over it with 1200 sand paper and autosol?

btw thats a nice floral design on spark cover, is that a stencil?

TheSaint

autosol is its own product

autoglym is a car cleaning brand - they will have a few different types of wheel polish, these are the most top shelf products u can get

maguires and mothers are the next best thing ... but autoglym takes the cake

autosol is good if u want to use lots of it and its cheap lol

at the end of the day its time u could be using to make money and save for some nice advans or rays hahahaha

MWAKU

i have enough saved, been looking at those RG's for 1.5k. but i dunno, spending 1.5k in one go! can't pull myself to do it. :( gotta be tight and make the best of what i have lol

to get a polished finsih like that in the picture, you will have to send it away and get them professionally done.

they'll do what benjammin said. try google or yellow pages for metal plating, or coating

just the surface of your rim will be enough or else it'll be too costly

whatever you do don't get the chrome spray paint, it just turns out silver :p
i've got a set of steelies that i want to do something with and being a tight arse i thought i get a cheap way out, didn't work out so well, let me know how much it cost you to chrome plate yours if that's the way you decide to go

MWAKU
10-09-2009, 01:03 PM
hmm i think ill just hand polish it

electroplating it is too much for stock wheels lol

zco
10-09-2009, 06:33 PM
yeh hand polish will not come out anywhere near that sort of finish though
it'll just be like, clean metal unfortunately

but let us know how you go

its nice to get ur wheels nice and clean for photoshoots ... but they are ALWAYS gona get covered in brake dust ... so meh

even more so if u have slotted rotors n high performance pads etc

thats why chrome isnt a good idea on 'performance' orientated cars like hondas

MWAKU
10-09-2009, 11:58 PM
true

wells ill just give it a shot with some light sanding to see how it goes lol.

TheSaint
11-09-2009, 12:02 AM
i need to do my fat fives as well .. what kind of sandpaper do u use?

im gona use some autosol+sandpaper ... than light polish with more autosol, than a clean + buff with a brand name wheel cleaner (autoglym, maguires, mothers)

MWAKU
11-09-2009, 12:43 PM
im just going to wet sand 1200 see how that goes the use some autosol

TheSaint
11-09-2009, 01:08 PM

i want to polish my stock em1 wheels but i don't want to spent 8 hrs per wheel as some ppl do :(, but i do like the idea on chrome steelies with semi slicks just for something different

TheSaint
12-09-2009, 02:22 PM
steelies = heavy =(

Boban
12-09-2009, 06:55 PM
my buddy club p1's w/out rubber 6.1 kg/ea, steelies (black painted) w/out rubber 6.5 kg/ea, both 15", i'm sure chrome might be heavier but not that much difference

Polishing is all about making the surface as smooth as possible to maximise the amount of light that is reflected.

Metal polishing kits are available at hardware stores and industrial supply shops. I've got one that i bought from Bunnings (haven't had time to use it yet)- its made by Josco and includes a couple of different grade polishing compounds and some drill attachments to apply the compounds.

so what? after you finish sanding + polishing apply 2-3 layers of clearcoat over the top, no harm done mate :D
