Hi everyone, I just recently placed an order for a 1.3 GLI auto. (19k drive away). Will pick it up next week. I am just curious if it is fine for long trip? Like Sydney to Melbourne (with 3-4 ppl)? I test drove the car. I know the car is totally fine for daily city drive. But im a bit doubt on long trip. Any GLI owner here already had a long trip? Thanks in advance.......

taking the 1.5 vti to melb from syd. Its fine.

You will use quite abit more fuel tho as it will be revving harder to maintain momentum on those big hills tho.

You'll be ok, as mentioned you'll need more fuel for the hills but otherwise you'll be ok.

Ben and I can be testiment to Carbies being strong enough for interstate trips

and if something goes wrong with the car, with 4 of you, its gonna be a memorable trip..LOL..
imagine talking about the time when you conned 3 of your friends into pushing the car to the next service station 10km away while you steer the car...

Youcan do trips in nearly anything.

Our Family car when I was growing up was a Renault 12 Station Wagon. When we went on holidays it was an 8hr trip from Orange to Port Macquarie with 2 adults, 3 kids, dog, cat, luggage and 6x4 box trailer - all with about 30kW.

So yeah, 73kW ought to be enough...:D

And people think you need a 2 1/2 tonne SUV for a family car.

Yeah, after about hour 3 we usually were...

No Nintendo, DVD or iPod in those days! I Spy and music on a portable cassette player was about it.

Mind you, that Renault was old school French in terms of its ride quality. Not even the French make them like that anymore.
