Hey guys,

Just to give you reference... I have a 2002 HONDA INTEGRA TYPE R (DC5), that has a heavy duty clutch put in 2 years ago (25,000km ago)...

Lately I have noticed that when I engage the throttle the revs build up, then they recead as the car finally begins to slowly pull?

I think it has something to do with the clutch, but the car was just serviced by honda 1,000km ago..

Any suggestions and help would be so greatly appreciated.. thanks

sounds normal to me to be honest

Well If I can explain it better... When i accelerate the revs go from 1000rpm to 3500rpm, with no speed increase then with foot still flat down the revs drop to 3000rpm as the car finally begins to start to gain speed

so you mean to say you think the clutch is slipping?

I think so... can you explain it abit I honestly have no idea.. and does it need attention?

well heres a way to test
get rolling at a low speed say 15-20km/h, get into a higher gear 4> and put your foot down
if the clutch is slipping then the revs will rise quickly without the speed going up quickly
if it's fine then both the rpm and speed should climb slowly

if it's slipping then you may need a new clutch
if it's not slipping then you better get it looked at asap

Its definetely slipping!

how much would a new clutch cost & how much for labour costs?

Thanks so much for your assistance

PS I have a hillclimb this weekend @ haunted hills in Victoria, do you think I must get it fixed before the meeting? eg will something go horribly wrong if I drive with it slipping?

well it's probably not doing you any favours running on a slipping clutch
better to call up a mechanic and see what they quote

Whats the negatives of driving a car that has a slipping clutch? example long term damage?, performancewise? other engine wear?

thanks

it will slip more and more and then eventually fail. Get it replaced to avoid sloppy performance.

would you say it too dangerous to take a slipping clutch to the track? i got a meeting this sunday

yes it is - because you may over heat it and end up on the side of the track , motionless.
