im getting insane amounts of rattles coming from under the dash when i drive on even fairly even roads. slipping a card between the windshield doesnt work and i cant get under the dash to find out what it is.
surely someone has also had this problem, a solution would be awesom.
pretty confident though that if i cant resolve it there will be vbp type s on carsales soon.

The way I solve it is to live with it or put the music louder:thumbsup:

hahaha believe me i have been, $2000 install. sometimes you just want to drive and listen to the engine, this has ruined it for me. car doesnt feel 100% lately either, feels sloppy as.

is it on deceleration? ie take your foot off the loud pedal and as the speedo/ rev go down there is a nice rattle?

nah its completely independant of acceleration/deceleration. my heat shield etc are all fine. its a loud buzzing coming from the dash on anything but smooth roads.
its like a fast ticking/vibrating sound that comes from each side of the dash and from the centre so im assuming its a piece of trim or something that spans the whole length under the dash.
man ive just had a bad car week haha, turn the stereo up, boot rattles, my clutch and engine are noisy as fk and feel like shit and to top it off i turn the window down to get some air and the damn seal is gone and squeeks like a mofo. LOL

oh yeh and straight after when trying to make a light second grinds HARD!

"sigh" hondas....

I've had my Type S new since 2005, that rattle near the windshield has been there since then. My friend's Type S also got the same problem, he took it back to honda and did a warranty repair on it. Turned out even worse lol

It dosen't bother me because when my vtec is much louder then that XD

hey mate i have exactly the same problem in my type s its been there since i baught the car and since ive put the coilovers in its got sooo much worse, then i put in a 7" screen in and it got 6 times worse than that!!!!! i think its just something you gotta live with, my passengers always comment that the car sounds like its gonna fall apart!! i think you just gonna have to get used to it, you will never get rid of the problem, if you dont want a rattly car buy a german one lol

Oh man, I have the same thing. After the last track day, I have this insanely loud rattle in my dash. I would love to know what it is, and would like to have it fixed! It totallly kills daily driving. Mines a DC2R though... It would suck even more to have it in a Type S.

VTECMACHINE i cant begin to tell you how annoyed i am with it!

i had a look on clubrsx and it seems there might be light at the end of the tunnel. apparently a heap of them tooo have had/solved this problem. have a look at the below links

http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=458329&highlight=dash+rattle

http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=378857&highlight=dash+rattle

the second one was from an aussie guy who posted on clubrsx, he basically just bought a length of weather stripping from clark rubber and pushed the shit out of it so it gets wedged from a-pillar (tweeter area where the noise seems to be loudest) around the whole dash and between the windscreen.

they think that the noise originates from the end of the dash resonatonating and making contact with the windcsreen hence the loud ticking noise. acura usa have a wrranty fix on it that involves taking off the windshield and putting a layer of felt on the inside which would dampen the noise.

their problem seems to be identical to ours and they alll seem to say that this remedy almost completely eliminates this problem. ill be doing this next week!

I know exactly what you're going through, and I think mines worse because i've got the engine torque damper. I have put in some rubber strips and it helps reduce the noise.
I find it becomes more of a problem when it's cold.

That fix makes sense. I have a DC5R dash in the shed, and the design is quite different to what I've seen before. There is a steel tube running across the dash, at the level of the steering column support. The rest of the dash plastic etc is supported off this. As the dash goes towards the windscreen as a slightly curved panel the only stiffening comes from the plastic air con and heating tubes which are a clip in type join - not solid. So there is plenty of scope for vibration. Putting in the weather strip or felt would both damp out the vibration and help isolate the plastic panel from the body. Be a pain to install properly. I'll have to watch out for that when I do the transplant.

your right its not something to worry about, although it is something that gives me and everyone elso in this thread the shits. some people enjoy having a car that is driveable, and this amongst other things makes this car feel cheap.

every time on a stop and mostly after it rains, when i steer the wheel esp turning to the right, theres just some rubbing or scrubing noise i hear.. thats odd...
