brake booster or master cylinder

1. When upgrading brakes, which one reduces the pedal travel?
Is it the brake booster or master cylinder?

2. I thought that one master cylinder can only fit the correct size of brake booster, however I have 2 sets of DC2r bmc and booster. Both of the master cylinder have 1" mark, however the holes position (for brake lines are different). The size of booster is different as well.
Any difference between pre-98 and 98+ DC2R brake booster/master cylinder?

ones abs ones non-abs? mayb thats why? not to sure though. but thats what i would be guessing lol

mm, are both abs and non-abs the same size 1"?

could it be the prelude bmc + bb?
i believe the bb6 uses a 1" bmc as well ??
