hey guys,
is this a cost effective performance mod for a relatively stock dc2r? how much difference does it make?
and at what cost?
thanks
get it dont only if ur getting a clutch at the same time i say... its a good mod to completment boltons

Well... yeah........ Toda clutch set or Spoon clutch set or exedy + spoon flywheel. You can squeeze out more power to the wheel and feel more "lighter" when revving to high end

toda fly + exedy clutch =
This should set you back about $1500 depending on where you get it done

lightweight fly increases acceleration speed (downside is a drop in speed if you lift your foot off the gas - been covered b4 interia etc etc)
i'll only recomend getting the fly change if you'll due in for a clutch change (kills 2 birds at the same time)
worse thing to do... change fly then mth or 2 later u'll have to change clutch... most cases you'll have to machine the fly to a mirror finish again to match the new clutch...
ordered the kit off adrian from Advan Performance in syd...
msg him for pricing with shipping to your state ...
last orders before xmas... so yeah... dont wait if your car needs a new clutch...

As everyone has said... YES YES YES YES YES YES
Seriously though, this is one of the most cost effective bang for your bucks upgrades you can do on a DC2R.
The difference is sharper acceleration in 1st, 2nd & 3rd, improved engine response & better engine braking...
On the track, this translates directly into reduced lap times.
All this, with no actual power gain or compromise to reliability.
Just more effective use of what you've already got.
Works well with either an OEM clutch or heavy duty item...
The H/D clutch obviously is more fun...
PM, call or email me for pricing
Cheers

WOuldn't the lightened flywheel reduce the effect of engine braking?
spoondc2
16-11-2004, 10:39 AM
It won't, rev up faster also means that the rpm will drop faster

does anyone know where i can source one of these? and at what cost?

WOuldn't the lightened flywheel reduce the effect of engine braking?
Because the flywheel is lighter, it has less inertia.
This reduced inertia allows the engine braking to work more effectivly as there is less effort required to slow the speed of the flywheel also.
A heavier flywheel will tend to keep the engine at the revs it is at, rather than allow the revs to rapidly change. Be that clutch in or out.

Yeah you will have benefit of the mod with good clutch, if you wanna save labour, you may also put LSD and final drive in

sorry dont mean to hijack this thread but i understand what you mean by LSD but what do you mean by Final drive is this the 6th gear that type r;s have or somehting . this sounds like it would cost alot more than 1500 smackos , any idea how much ?
oops gues i did hijack the thread . will start another one if you want me too

Nah it's fine, you didn't hijack anything, Final Drive is the final gear of the gear box, sorry i really dunno how to explain here, any expert could help? higher final gear ratio will make the acceleration more faster cos it shorten each gear's "range". for example, if you could use 1st gear to reach 60km/h then 100km/h on 2nd gear, after you change your final gear into higher ratio, you can reach maybe 50km/h on 1st and 8x km/h on 2nd, but the rpm will rev super fast since you shorten the ratio of the gear, it's good for me when i go on track, cos i won't be able to use my 5th gear about 200km/h, so i will be able to reach 5th gear if i change my final gear
oh and also that you will reduce your top speed, it's ok for me cos i never reach the top speed, errr maybe just once, 24xkm/h on RSM

ok i think i get it , think i will need to do some more looking in to if i want to do that , i guess you are saying that if i put in an LSD , change the final gear at the same time i do lightened fly well and new cluth that I will save on labour coz it is all done at the same time .
what sort of price would this be you think and where would be the best place to go , preferably in melb
qup70c
17-11-2004, 05:08 PM
a long story short
Increase in final drive = faster acceleration
down side is, if your cruising at say 110 km/h in 6th on the m5, you'll be sitting on higher revs (I can hear people going and.....?)

i have a base so i dont have 6th gear ,
where would be the best place to get this kind of work done , any idea how much ?

Spoon flywheel just 4.6kg compare with factory over 10kg. This is worthy. When you reving, you will feel that. Good luck!!
