Sad thing happened a few weekends back, while on the main stright at Sandown a DC2 type R broke a rod right in front of me. While I own a Evo now my last car was a DC2 that I owned for 8 years. I have to say that I was so surprised that a finely blanced engine like the unit in the DC2 could throw a rod.
While owning my DC2 it saw 20 or so track days and 6 years of use with a turbo on it yet it never missed a beat even while running double standard torque.

Anyone else had a type-R engine do anything like this?

lack of oil will generally do this. Driving style isnt that relevant as hondas will take alot of thrashing by the crappest drivers.

Also why did you sign up just to tell us this ?

And , why are you stating your location in Melb - when you are clearly posting from a NSW address?

I signed up as I'll be looking for a S2000 around Xmas time as a seond car if you have to know.
I live in Melb, I have know idea why you think I live in Sydney.
As my post states I was damm surprised that after owning a DC2 for so long and getting a hell of alot of hard use from it to see one let an engine go.

Thanks for assuming I signed up just to tell a bad story. I've all ready read a lot of the S2000 posts, is that ok before I buy one or should I ask permission from a mod.

sorry dude im just asking since its your first post - ps your posting location is in Sydney dont worry about it.

Anyway , i have heard of a couple of b18c7 doing a bearing or rod , due to oil starvation and combination of thrashing.

Good to know that the engine is as tuff as I thought.
I guess its the simple things like not checking your oil during a track days that can bite people, such a shame.
