Hey Guys,

Anyone had the trouble of trying to find new pillow ball bearings for their coilovers?

Mine are slowly wearing and giving me the shits.

They are HKS Hypermax II's for 2002 DC5R.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, as I would want as little down time as possible.

Thanks!

Matty

We have replacement bearings available for Fightex dampers, ($70 each)

But the issue is I'm not sure the dimensions will match what you have already.
If you can pop one out & take the measurements (diameter, thickness of flange & ID)
I can check if we have something to suit.
Cheers

Adrian

Edit: Also try Performance Wholesale in Qld (HKS Deaslers)
They aught to be able to get you the genuine repair part.

Thanks Adrian!

Gave Performance Wholesale a call. Apparantly they cannot order them as replacement parts and to scrap the coilovers completely... what a crock of shit.

Looks like ill have to pop the bearings out and have a look at them.

Adrian,
Are you able to sell fightex pillow ball camber tops alone?

Through the powers of the internet
I cant pull them apart as im at work

apparantly they all run the same bearing size

quote

Its the wide series they use, NMB MBWT16

ID - 16
OD - 30
Race width - 15
Ball width - 19

I dont know if this helps.

I couldnt imagine them setting up their machines to accept a different baring size for diff models.. etc

Specialty bearing suppliers should have the best prices. Look in the Yellow pages under 'Bearings and Bushes'.

FWIW, spend the extra and get the teflon lined ones because these will last longer. The teflon liner 'self-wipes' the ball, cleaning the dust off before it gets between the moving / rubbing surfaces. Cheaper metal to metal (whether steel / steel or steel / bronze) require lubrication and this attracts dirt, which turns to grinding paste. Other plastic liners (e.g. nylon) don't last long because the liner pounds out under heavy loadings (but are fine for light load applications).

no doubt i would go for teflon lined! That is just a given!.

I just hate it when automotive manufactures, like HKS, sell their shit, which they know cannot be rebuilt. So its basically a single use item.

Adrian, If you have anything that may fit let me know and ill get the ball rolling to get it measured up!

Thanks!

Matty

Doesn't hurt to go a bit overboard with grease too - keeps dirt out.

Sure can...
TODA Fightex DC5 adj front pillow ball mounts are $395 (pair) - delivered
Rear upper DC5 mounts (ridgid) are quite a bit more expensive at $700 (pair) - delivered

Thanks for that Adrian!

I guess my next question is, do you think they will fit on the HKS coilovers?

I think so, but I've asked Japan for you anyway.
Will let you know.

Don't grease the lined spherical bearings, only the metal to metal ones.
