my radiator has a leak. eg si hatch.

$170 for a new standard (~20mm core) one locally or ebay $134 for a new 42mm core aluminum racing one? i know you get what you pay for with most things so i'm asking if anyone has had any experience with these?

link here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/racing-aluminum-radiator-Honda-Civic-EK-EG-92-00_W0QQitemZ300347814189QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_ Parts_Accessories?hash=item45ee1ff12d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)

please any feed back comment would be great!

My suggestion.
Research.

If you cant find anything on it. Dont buy it. Its most probably a cheap "branded-type" product made from a cheap company that knows nothing about cars. They follow a design based on another product and imitate it.
If a company can back theyre products up. They will provide warranty.
Hence the reason why cheap companies use ebay as a method of transaction.
Ebay does not cover the buyer for a malfunctioning product once the product is purchased and installed, followed by a feedback to the seller.
Once the transaction is completed the seller does not need to back that "1 YEAR WARRANTY GURANTEE" bullcrap. Legally, they dont have to, unless the necessary paperwork was signed.

Ebay = a good source for cheap and readily available off the shelf parts.
Ebay = a worldwide loophole in goods transaction. No tax is payed on goods, no warranty is required on products, no license is required to sell.

I've got one in my EG Civic...Works well and keeps the engine cool...too cool some times. Never had a problem and have had it on for 2 years. Bought for 120 back then when they weren't well known, now the RX7 guys roll with em' as well. Do a search around on Google with all the car clubs and you'll find that they're pretty decent for what you pay for. Can't say much about the workmanship, but the one I have has nice welds all around and not a single crack yet. It's been through the shit as well.

i picked up a similar one locally(not asi but probably out of the same factory in china)
6 months on and still going good
good fitment, no leaks and welds look pretty good
bit of bending needed to fit the reservoir since it's a thicker core though

Am running one in my EG + B18 and a mate is running one with a D16. Both are working fine with no hassles so far.

I say go grab yourself one, but that's just my 2c (which I saved + more from not buying oem. lol)

i believe ASI provide 30days warranty or something for manufacture defects or items faulty on arrival.
most likely paying by paypal so that covers you anyway so if you get a product and its not what they described or doesn't do the job properly, lodge a claim with them and they can help you out.

if it does the job, cools the water temps more then why not get it, why pay more for something that you can get which is cheaper, looks better & does a twice better job.

I have one on my 4G63'd CD5A. Not sure about the civic units, but ill speak from experience with the one I have. While it works well, and out-cools an OEM unit quite substantially, the fitment and overall build quality is poor.

Dont get me wrong, I have had no issues with mine to date, after some 2000ks, no leaks etc etc. It is pretty obvious these things are produced en masse. Poor quality, chinese core, mounting bosses for the thermofans out by several mm etc etc.

There are better (more expensive) options out there, but for the money you pay, you cant really go wrong.

Just check it thoroughly when purchasing off ebay as mine was damaged on arrival and had to be sent back (which they payed for) and replaced, and be prepared to potentially have to do some custom mounting of your thermofan.

hope this helps

i've got one, its a no-name brand, it works fine no issues at all, fine was not a problem either.
I know 3 other people running then without issue also.

End of the day so long as it fits, & doesn't leak it should be fine.

ABSOLUTELY STOKED!!!

its fitment was spot on, fan and all! looks heaps tough and the only small troubles were;

1)the pipes that attach to the rubber hoses was slightly larger which meant sliding the hose over was a bit tricky and the oem hose clamps, not big enough, had to be replaced with some proper 2" screw up type hose clamps (which i think is better anyway).

2) because the core is thicker the bottom bolt on the reservoir bottle had to be undone to it could be twisted back slightly to accommodate the extra core width.

2 VERY EASY FIXES!

time will tell with leaks etc. first day and no signs yet.

one thing i really like was the supplied cap came with a chain so you wouldn't lose the cap. make sure tho when bolting this the the car you do it to the fan bolt and not on the chassis. i've read somewhere grounding your radiator to the chassis can cause 'electrolysis' which corrodes your radiator.

the inner fin area would be approx double that of stock, so its fin volume would approx be double too, so in turn it would have much better cooling capacity. this thing monsters the oem one.

can't really get performance gains out of a radiator now can we?

either way good to hear 55exx :)

Depending on how bad your leak is, you might just be able to get it seal professionally.

i meant in terms of temperature, if you say that, what is the difference between a known brand and one of these? I'm curious, as i was looking at the known brand, but these have come up.

I'm curious, as i was looking at the known brand, but these have come up.The OEM radiator does a fine job of keeping temperatures in check, for 99% of the time, just as long as you maintain it.

The only gain you will get out of an after market radiator is when you would be pushing your motor so much that its out of the capabilities of the stock unit, and thats pretty much only when on the race track. Even then, the stock unit is plenty capable.
