hi all

now i have been around cars for a longtime yet have not played with hondas to much with the boost side of things yet......

ok i have a 1990 ls honda integra and i have just rebuilt the motor and prepd it for boost not a big crazy build but all good partswent ito the motor and the word eBay was not part of the build.....

the motor is a b18a1 with a pr4 ecu i have run out of time for a aftermarket ecu as the car has a wedding it needs to be in....

my question is will the stock ecu accept the small 7psi(lowest psi the acuator will go) with the addition of a rising rate fuel reg.... or is there a chip that i can buy to make the ecu accept it..

I will be swapping to a aftermarket ecu afer the date but as i said time is notmy friend and no one in this town is on my most trusted to tune my car list so is would tkae about 3 weeks for me to get it wired and tuned time i dont hav...

any help is appreciated

wait the three weeks,

its not advisable to drive with out an aftermarket ecu

not an option, was thinking wiring the watsegate open so as having no boost but if there a option that doesnt include that then im all ears

sorry i missed that part about the wedding.

when i had my kit tho it wasnt advised to drive, i needed it for work.

u can drive it but i wouldnt drive it in boost.

you can buy an cheep piggy back setup for now. Still not advisable but it will get the car running at least.

You can still drive the car on the stock ecu setup it will still run but if you start hitting pressure it wont be good at all.

don't waste all the hard work you did.
Without the correct ECU & tuning, you might end up having to start again.
Its not worth the risk

so to the guys who have done it will 7psi be fine on stock ecu cause i got a wide band o2 sensor and im not gunna flog it or would opening the wastegate wide open be the only option

u can do it on the stock ecu, its just not recommended

dude all we are saying is, its possible for the car to start or drive with the stock ECU. but its not safe for the motor at all. as soon as you have pressure it confuses the ECU and wacks out fuel and air. Might even put your ecu in limp mode.

Just leave the wastegate open, I drove around with mine for over a month like that. It was still building 1-2 psi when I went WOT and it was fine

kool so wastegate open is the way to go after the wedding im gunna goto a aftermarket ecu i just ran out of time unfortunatly....

Just keep an eye for any boost creep

so if it gets boost the ecu will shut down cause ive boosted na cars before on stock ecus and they have been fine but honda seems to be a bit more advanced in the ecu department.

you could just put a T peice and screw the boost off so it wont go past 1psi would be cheap and easy to do

the lowet a boot tee will allow boost to go is the stock pound on the acuator which in my case is 7psi and screwing it off will free boost it so no that will not work

For god's sake don't drive it on a stock ecu when the motor can make boost, you'll lean out like crazy an chances are pop goes your engine.

Are you internally gated? If so just don't connect the wastegate rod to the flapper on the turbo and hey presto you have 0 boost (or incredibly minimal).

remap the stock ecu...

i think the ecu is a obd0 so no good there

get a conversion harness

Or do what I did and stay obd0 so you don't have to change everything else and chip and tune with BRE, it's free and very similar to Chrome.

If you have any doubts/questions, talk to me, this is what I'm running.

EDIT: Damb, you have a crx! You really need to be talking to me :D

to run the stock ecu you may need a 1 way valve for the map or the ecu will turn the car off at about 3psi(not sure if all honda ecus do this), and then add say rising rate reg,
also could put in a 1 bar map and a vtec controller and quickly tune with yur wideband,
but its best to chip it, or use piggy back/stand alone

u can't tune a stock ecu without chipping it anyway.

But as a point anyone who is boosting their car should run a full ECU or tunable stock ecu otherwise don't even bother boosting it, cos it will more than likely end up in failure
