hey guys

just wondering if the 3.0L engine in the 1998-2002 accord is the same engine in the 2002-2005 accord?

ive been reading that they are both ~200bhp but not sure whether they are the same or not

also, especially, for those who drive a 3.0L 1998-2002 accord are these engine reliable? worth the difference? or go for the 2.3L version?

cheers guys

ive got a 2000 V6. its a 3.0L J30A engine, pushes out 147kw. the 7th gen models also feature a J30 I think...

There's quite a significant power difference between the 2.3L i4 and the 3.0L V6. the 2.3 puts out 110KW which i feel is not really enough for such a large car as the accord. In my opinion I wouldn't go for the 4cyl as the 6 puts out some decent power for a biggish car.

the j30a v6 has enough power behind for most daily drivers.

as far as i know, the 98-02 accord uses the J30A1 which pushes ~200hp
and the 02-05 accord uses the revised J30A4 which pushes ~240hp with the use of a new vtec system and a higher CR

The 6th gen Accord uses the J30A1/A2 with approximately 200hp, while the 7th gen Accord came with the J30A4/A5 with 240-250hp, depending on fuel octane. The main differences was a revised vtec system, improved cylinder head design, compression ratio, free flowing exhaust and catalytic converters. The bottom end architecture remains largely the same as both engines still sit within the same J30 family.

The 7th gen also have a 5 speed auto, which really makes the car quite peppy due to the shorter ratios between gears compared to the 6th gen's 4 speed auto.

The engines are generally very reliable, but the 6th gen's auto is known to be problematic. This was improved somewhat in the 7th gen, but failures still happen to some cars.

From what I've read, the biggest change was in power from upgrading the exhaust side. Not much really changed on the engine itself.

Go the V6! Pulls nicely without working it hard. Doesn't burn much more fuel. (2005 engine)
