Rough estimate to fix what.....head gasket or radiator cap?

What colour is your coolant?

head gasket lol
is the question not that obvious :P
coolant.. hmm.. not sure
multicoloured
brown green clear
by the way that pic is showing the brown gunky shit on my cap coming from the radiator (obviously)

the brown milky stuff is what you get when you mix oil and water - definite sign of a blown headgasket.

what does it look like inside the rocker cover (remove the oil cap and stick your finger in - is the milky stuff there too?)

if it has been like this for a long time - you are lucky - it must be a small blow-out on the head gasket...

about $1000 - $2000 for a mechanic to fix it, about $150 just for the gasket itself...

you could probably pick up a used (un-reconditioned) block for 750, or a B16A swap for 2000-3000 from an importer, or one from me for 1500...

ur doing a good job of convincing me tinkerbell lol
i have had my rocker cover earlier this year to paint it and it was pretty clean in there..
its still clean now
its only in the radiator
and i only got my radiator serviced 2 months ago so its not dirty..well it is now again..

well, it looks like oil is getting into the coolant - but the coolant is not getting into the oil... kinda unusual?

which might be why it has lasted so long...

maybe get a mechanic to check it out, the problem might not be at the headgasket?

try cleaning the radiator cap and seeing if the contamination persists.

your looking at about $1200 to do the head gasket, might be able to do it cheaper depending on how much work the head needs. there is never an accurate price for this kind of job coz no one knows the condition of the head prior to taking it off, so people overquote and if the head doesnt cost much to fix, they make more money.

also allow some $$ to have your radiator flusshed and unblocked.

the car has done 300,000km+

it is unlikely the head is going to *just* need a resurface... might need some welding too...

its not only on the cap
its in the whole radiator hehehe
