View Full Version : How would i know if i have a vtec engine?

Hi,
I just bought a car, how would i know if it has a vtec engine? how do i know if they just changed the rocket cover to a cover that had vtec n put stickers. I can't hear when the vtec comes in.

looks for the engine number, its located on the left side of the block, next to the header, where the block meets up with the gearbox. then seach about what engine u have or just post it on here and we'l let u know

what model , gsi, vtir, type R. cause you say dc2, that means you have a vtec variant. dc4 is the non vtec model
just photo the engine and give it to us~ does it look like A or B

read on the left party of the block near the exhaust. it should be stamped b18c7

you have vtec if you have B and no you cant put a vtec cover on a non-vtec motor if its a B motor

The bolts line up very differently for the VTEC rocker covers. One major difference is that 4 of the cam cap bolts come all the way up through to the cover - these don't exist on the non-VTEC.

Option B has VTEC however, try reading again.

because the studs don't line-up and also i think the non-vtec head is to shallow..... look up info on the b18 motor in particular the b18b, b18c4 and the b18c7

take the cover off ur airbox, warm up the engine so that the temp guage is in the middle, find a nice bit of open road away from any people, redline the engine in 2nd gear - u should hear the vtec crossovers
if u have a vti-r there will be 2 crossovers ... if u have a type-r there will be one hard crossover
but in all seriousness ... search ... theres plenty of info on this ALL OVER the internetz

that a photo hisoka posted is a b20(out of a crv) as far as i know
