Hey guys, so just got my car tuned at APC and got a result of 96.8kw atw was just wondering if this was around the average mark for a B18C2 ?.
I have basic bolt-on mods full exhaust, skunk2 IM, short ram intake, adjustable cam-gears (stock Cams) and a fresh topend rebuild nothing major just a standard rebuild. I was expecting around the 100 - 110kw mark. was just tuned on a Apexi Neo.

cheers

that sounds about right for a VTiR. post up your graph.
did APC adjust the cam timing or left it untouched?

Here is the Graph, i think they left it zeroed

yeah looks like what they did was just play around with safc (quick tune), if you get them to play around with cam timing, you'll get a few more kw out of it otherwise its pointless having cam gears as they're not being used. perhaps look into a better piggy back like emanage blue which allows ignition tuning as well.

I'm surprised this guy wasted his time.....

You might as well sell the apexi and buy hondata. If you're tight for cash, go crome.

Apexi Neo only allows fuel and vtec point adjustments. It cannot change ignition timing which is needed if you want more power.

Yea i mainly wanted to just change the VTEC point because i got the Skunk IM and try and gain a few kw's, got quoted 2.3k for hondata s300, way out of my price range and got the Neo of a friend for cheap. Maby i should sell the apexi and go for the eManage which looks quite affordable.

Just go crome or basic hondata.

Since your motor is relatively standard, there is no need for an aftermarket ECU. A flash tune will do fine. I mean flash on a standard ECU.

Retain your factory computer setup, it's alot simpler when it comes to issues later down the track.

there are a few s200 hondatas going for about $650 or so.
That would be worth it, a full tune is about $600-850

As a reference I've got B18C from a 1998 GSR (imported motor) it's had a complete rebuild recently, cleaning of the ports was the only internal change oh and maybe a slight shave of the head but nothing drastic.

I also have a lightened flywheel, 4 - 2 - 1 to 2.5inch complete exhaust with a single sports muffler, standard intake pipes (from a b18a) with a k&n pod filter.Adjustable cam gears and a Hondata s200 tuned by toda and I'm making 110kw at the wheels. The air conditioning compressor has no belt on it either.

My first dyno run before tuning was about 98 - 100 if memory serves correctly. So 96kw from what sounds like it's not getting the most out of a tune seems about right to me.

Hope it helps yo! ;)

gotta factor in different dyno's though....unless he has a before and after print you cant tell what you increased in power.

should have waited till you got a header too if i didnt miss read that you already have one.

considering the price its not that much of a waste i got my safc2 for $150 plus a tune for $100 which gained about 5kw all around so for $250 its not that bad.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys.

But tuning AFR will NOT make a decent gain in power unless you are running way too lean, or way too rich. Ignition timing is where you make your gains.

So tell me, why would you expect to see a gain by only tuning fuel?

As I said, throw that ricebox SAFC in the bin and get a decent ECU.

ay how is 96.8kw about right for a vti-r integra my eg with a b16a made 95.8kw???

If you're going to go the emanage path take it to Ivan at HPR. He loves them.

cheers for the replys, yea i was thinking it would make around 100 - 110 kwatw but i guess i need a proper ecu with the ignition tuning to make more power out of my bolt on mods.

sweet ill keep that in mind i didnt even no HPR had a dyno lol

bro, dyno figures are only a ball mark..

see how it drives.. if you are happy and feel a good kick then take it down track and see what u can improve..

u can go to another dyno and get a massive reading.. (pm me if you want this) lol

and then u can walk around telling everyone what u got and when u come down to the track get smashed by lower dyno reading cars..

dont stress to much.. just make sure the airfuel ratios are good and the tuner knows what he is doing..

i drove all the way down to adrian/toda just to get my car tuned, 1000 kays one way.. and seriously? i dont regret anything one bit!

car drives like no other..

PS. just go hondata, and stop messing around! all this time and money taking short cuts in the end will cost you more.

keep going to dyno's , you will get a high reading one eventually :)
dont go chasing dyno numbers, our engines were never made to be dyno warriors
Worry about having torque where is it needed etcccc

get a b20 bottom end mate :) much cheaper and u get massive torque :D

ive gotten on my vti-r 101kw atw with headers, exhaust and intake. No tune.

my mate got 109kw atw with headers, exhaust and intake and no tune as well lol

yea the 96.8kw dosent bother me, the car seems to be running much better, i just just thought that it was a bit low, i know ive only done basic mods but thought it would get a lil higher, especialy considering koevi and sig are getting 100+ with no tune lol but i guess all dynos read different, maby melb dyno's are dodgy haha :P.

goto 999 for a higher reading dyno :)

for example
@101 i got 116kw
@999 i got 125kw

the only number that matters is the one u get on the quarter mile

Hondata s300 installed in a p28 ECU are going for about $850 AUD shipped to Australia. Brand new with preprogrammed basemap for your setup.

With the ECU they cost more AUD than that. It just under $1000 with the ECU before shipping

850 Nice ill definitely look in to that ITRfaithful could you please post or pm the site you ordered it from.

So it comes all ready to plug and play, just remove the old ecu and plug in the new chipped one?

PM'd.
Depending on your car, if its obd1 then it will be plug and play. If not, you'll have to order the harness which will make it a bit more.
But my product (p28 w/s300) came in less than a week, and popped right into my car with no issues. Runs better untuned than my old p72.

They haven't dropped in price. The AUD has become stronger making all parts from the US cheaper.

I was quoted the same prices as what is listed on Hondata's website a few months ago. It's clearly cheaper now

is that for the Hondata installed into the ECU, or the hondata only???

02gzm
09-10-2009, 07:36 PM
?? Prices at the top of the page are for the Hondata units. Down the bottom is the ECU and installation costs. I've got a p30 ecu so I'm only after the s300 itself.
