hey guys, I have recently bought a MAzda 3 MPS and am really enjoying the high power outta the engine but am kinda missing the High reving hondas even though power isnt as much. They just feel more racey than the MPS. What do u guys think ? do u think I would be upgrading or down grading going from a 2008 3 MPS to an integra Type S. I havent test driven one yet, but am just trying to get a feel for what ppl think of the 2 cars compared to each other. I know this is a honda forum, but can we please try and be subjective and have an open minded discussion about both cars lol
Thanks

A mazda 3 MPS to a Honda Integra Type S would definately be a downgrade to me, I would be inclined to trade in for a Type S if I had a normal Neo Mazda 3 or even an SP23, but the MPS I would easily keep over the Type S.

I own a Type S integra, great car, But if i wasnt under the QLD power restriction law (green P plates) i would prefer a MPS.

nah I got the 08 MPS. Specifically wanted the older shape as it was a bit rougher around the edges which I enjoyed really. The new MPS is a little slower and a lot more refined. Some ppl I know would prefer that but I personally prefered how the older one drives... Felt more like a go Kart.
I wonder how the Type S would compare speed wise to the MPS and which one would hold its value better long term

Thanks guys ! I think I will go take a Type S for a test drive but I doubt it will feel as good as the MPS power wise. I know I drove an S2K the other day at a dealer who wanted a direct swap for the MPS with very little change over price and I just couldnt hack the lack of toruqe. The difference felt like jumping from a V8 into my sisters civic. Although the car was deceptively fast u just didnt get that push back in ur seat type of acceleration u get from the MPS. I'm assuming the Integra will be much the same ?

definitely a downgrade if u get the type s. like even u said the s2k felt like shit, the type S would be worse!
whats the mps worth these days? whats the power and torque like in these beasts?

I picked up the car 08 with 30000KM on it for 30 grand. On paper its supposed to put out 190KW and 380NM of torque. I got it dynod the other day, and it was putting out close to 158KW at the wheels stock. I think the car weighs about 1400KG or there abouts.
If I keep it I will porbably get it chipped and it should put out about 220KW and 470NM stock just with an ECU flash without too much fuss for about $1000.
HAving said all that, I used to drive an accord euro b4 I bought an MPS and the honda's just felt so much more solid and the gear box was soooo much more precise ! I guess both cars have a trade off with one thing or another. If only Honda made a car like the MPS with a nice big turbo and massive torque output from a high reving great sounding honda engine ! mmmm now that would make my decision a lot easier.
From reading everyones comments though I probably will stick with the MPS.

Neither be upgrading or downgrading. They’re both very different cars, for different markets.
You’re the one, who’ll drive the car
Only YOU know the answer
Only YOU know your performance expectations
Only YOU know your cosmetic preferences
Only YOU know your financial considerations
Only YOU know your insurance limitations
And for the record, we don’t buy N/A DC5’s, for their power.
i think the s2k is more powerful ~175kw compared to type S at ~154kw.....to tell you the truth i had a SSS with a GtiR engine that was putting out 175kw at wheels on 11psi.....it was pretty quick...but i prefered the type S as its more drivable, can put the power down better etc.....i think hondas are more refined but i would stick to the MPS....if a s2k didnt make up you mind then a type S has no chance.....

Yeah the thing with the S2000 wasnt only the lack of torque or power it was also its practicality that really wasnt acceptable for me. It would be ok if I had a second car, but for a daily driver with my height, it wasnt really all that comofrotable. WAs hoping maybe the Type S is a good comprimise, but after reading everyones thoughts, I have decided I will be keeping the MPS for the next couple of years and enjoy it for the torque monster that it is, get the speed bug outta my system then maybe go back to a honda again, maybe another Euro or something. At the end of the day I will always have a soft spot for honda's.
Thanks for the comments everyone.

2 different cars, 2 different feeling.
If u have a crazy passion for i-vtec, the type S is definitely a good choice, the type S also features the vtec crossover point (sound) like the B series engines.
If u like Turbo, then stick with the MPS. I wouldnt much see it as a down grade but just make sure u get a 2006 model one with low k's and excellent condition.

my friends mps3 has a few mods, and wow the power is pretty impressive. the interior is pretty nice too.
but everybody's reply in this thread seems to be based on power.
the type S would prolly be a bit more precise, and a bit better on petrol. Though compared with the s2k would probably be easier to drive daily. the s2k is tuned for max hp output, and therefore its low to midrange suffers for it. Honda basically wanted to get that golden 250hp. They have since rectified this problem with the fd2R and is therefore a faster machine.
if your complaining the s2k has a lack of torque, it does not automatically mean the type S will be worse. imo, the type S will feel much torqier down low than the s2k. just not as torqy as a 2.3L turbocharged mps engine that pumps 20psi stock in 4th gear.. lol

ahhhhh dont mention Fuel ! I'm getting 290KM from a 55L tank ! and thats down to the low petrol light coming on ! :( I must admit that it pushing the car a bit but when driving like a granny I get no more than 390-400KM MAX
well I'm still leaning to keeping the MPS but the more replys I get in favour of the type S, the more I wana take it for a drive which is what I'm gonna do. Tomorrow lunch time !gonna take this one here for a test drive....

Would almost be a direct swap for me car with little change over cash.

If this existed, it would more than likely be closer to the 100k mark.
