if its the same series motor you can
i.e you put a dc2r motor in a gsi or vtir that fine............ you put a b16b in a em1 or ej8 etc
you get the drift..............but when it come from a diffrent series you need a engineers cert

have you had a look on the vicroads website? or given them a call?
from what I've read you only need the certificate with a certain amount of displacement increase.

i hope this helps - i read somewhere that in vic u dont need engineering cert if the power increase between the engines is less that a certain percentage, sorry about being so vague...
but thats all i can remember..

Do you have the NSW rego papers? How long has it been out of rego?
The original D16 motor was 1590cc, the B16 is 1595cc. Im pretty sure you only need a engineers certificate if the displacement is increased by something like 10-15%.
Im sure someone on here will know for sure.

for a d16 to b16 no issues as the eg6 comes with a b16a. NO ISSUES but your coilovers are

it shoud be no problem to get it register in vic, i got a ek with b18c register with no problem, no engineer cert require....
as long as the displacement is under 300cc then it should be no problem...
eg. 1.5L convert to 1.8L (thats 300cc)
hope this helps

thanks for the replies.
i know the motor is from a ek4. and engine displacement is the same and not larger.
the car is currently still registered in NSW but is not registered with the changed motor.
i'll give vicroads a call this week.
