up to the discretion of the officier if they pull you up
over here (http://163.189.7.150/licensing/gettingalicence/car/p1p2_conditions.html?llid=4) it says "Engine performance modifications that require an engineers' certificate." so if you had a 1.6L to begin with and plonked in a 1.8L all you'd need is an engine number change and no engineers certificate involved

A good start would be what state you are from, what car you drive, what engine it has at the moment.

Qld , 2000 civic cxi with stock engine
im sure in QLD you cant drive a car with a conversion, as you would need a "MOD plate" to be able to register the car. Meaning the car is "modified" so it applies to P platers

yea but was just seeing if you can get a conversion without a mod plate. similar to the sr20 , ca18 conversions on a silvia
yeah can definetly drop another engine in it and drive it. But if you get pulled over and copper has a check in engine bay and it doesnt have the original engine with the original numbers you can be in trouble.
Thats why you gotta mod plate it.
