Is it possible to put in the HID globes without the HID kits? Anyways what are the kits for?

Ta!

you will need a proper HID conversion kit, go for the 8000k ones. Light the road very well :D

he probably just got the globes that are advertised on ebay as xenon hid globes....they are just blue halogens.

and jks24...miss information is bad.
8000k are shit. they are too blue and dont light up shit. i ran them myself for a few months.
if you want light output dont go over 6000k. even thats pushing it.
max light output is actually around 4300k. (the intersect of lumen vs kelvin)

8000K is prob the worst suggestion you can make to someone. Anything above 6000K is real sh*t house, 4300K is the best. It's not each to their own, 8000K is pure rich and don't light up the road at all...

still each to their own, everyone has diff preferences. My car, i have what i want on it. Do you mean 4300k bulbs like phillips crystal vision or something?

4300k hid in projectors is the best setup you can have for pure light output.

but...not everyone wants/can get projectors.
brightest lights you can put in are 4300k hid...done and done. not further debate.

i think ppl with hid's, on reflector type headlights, using 8kk temp rating are stupid.

have no regards to other drivers. focknots.

i want to shine a 100mW red laser right through your eye. feel it good.

had to vent.

edit: no not possible.

not stupid...just inconsiderate.

i personally feel that using ANY hid in reflector type headlights is one of the most selfish things you can do. reflector type headlights simply are not built for hid and produce incredible amounts of glare.
they are just plain dangerous.

but...how about this not degenerate into another "projector vs reflector hid" thread and just leave it as it is.

if your friend recons he just put in hid globes without the rest of the kit (ie, ballasts) then he is either full of shit or got ripped off by someone selling his halogen globes as hid globes. either way he sounds like an idiot.
question answered.

Phillips is a brand. They make the best quality lighting products you can get. Slightly more expensive than others but you pay for what you get.

conventional H series halogen globes are halogen filled and a tungsten filament that is heated to produce light. HID's use Xenon gas (as well as a few other gases) and doesn't have a filament. Instead it has 2 electrodes at either end that arc through the bulb. The HID ballast is needed to fire an initial 25,000 volt burst through the electrodes to start it up. A constant 85 volts is then used to keep it running.

If you're going to use HID's in a reflector housing make sure to get D1R/D2R bulbs that have a cutoff on the bulb itself. Other drivers will then hate you slightly less

i have had 6000k and 8000k in my car, and 8000k, although it looks awesome, you cannot see the road for shit compared to 6000k and its even worse when its raining

so i stuck with 6000k low beams and 8000k fogs
