Hi after searching for information on the web I found ozhonda and decided to register to ask honda owners personally for some advice.

Well here i go. Recently, (a few days ago ) I've experienced problems with my gearbox, well so I believe, but hope its not! Stupidly enough, i was driving stupid in wet weather (not sure if this has any effect? water getting into something?) Due to the rain i only hit about 110 on a suburban street and backed off. After this, the gearbox became strange. It doesnt crunch gears, but doesn't want to go into gear.

The problems occurs more so when the revs are higher, say above 3-4k; and always when attempting to down shift. The stick just does not want to go in, sure i can slam it in...but i don't think that would be doing it any good and only harm. So I'm not sure if you guys have experienced this or would know what could be the problem? Even when I heel toe down gears it still doesnt go in.

The things is, I've read a thread on some other car (cant remember what it was - but it wasnt a honda) and they mentioned a broken pressure plate affecting the gear changes due to the clutch not engaging or disengaging? I don't know if this could even be the problem since my car is a honda and not whatever car that was.

The key point was that this problem could be distinguished when the gears would change fine when the car was off or stationary but simply wouldnt shift only when the car was in motion! This is what my problem was like.

What could the problem be? Please help! thanks guys.

What car?

If there's no wierd noises, first thing I'd check is:
1) Is there fluid in the Clutch Reserviour
2) Is there a leak on the clutch master and slave pump.

So you think it is a clutch problem moreso than a gearbox problem?

The gears do feel kinda knotchy i guess but i think thats the same problem as how the gears don't want to go in. Its a 94 vtir with 180k on it.

How do i check for them leaks? thanks

Sounds like you have a worn clutch or your clutch system needs bleeding.

The way to check for leaks is to look at the back of your master cylinder, which is connected to your clutch pedal under the dash.

also you can peel the rubber boot back on your slave cylinder and if there is any fluid in there change it.

^^ As above..

Start by checking for the obvious - and hopefully cheaper to fix.

1) is the clutch reserviour full? Is there sufficient fluid -if there's none, it could point to a leak somewhere.
2) Look around where the Master cylinder is connected to the pedal (both inside the car and under the hood) - Is the surrounding area wet with brake fluid and is the paint peeling off/orange peel
3) Is the clutch slipping?
4) Is there a shudder in the clutch pedal?
