View Full Version : performance quiet exhaust system for ek4
Hey guys,
need advice regarding a full exhaust (quiet) and good performance. I have few in mind but have few questions and need your experiences.
- I have EK4 with ASR brace & EK9 Swaybar kit.
(would any of these exhaust fit)?
- Is there any pros and cons for these exhaust.
1. will any any of these exhaust clears ASR & EK9 Swaybar?
(spoon street, fujitsubo Legalis R Evolution & mugen twinloop)
2. How low does it sits on the car?
3. How loud are these in db (idle & 2-4k range)
4. Which of these exhaust is best overall
(performance, sound, quality, clearance)
5. Anyone know the dimension?
6. Any pictures on the car would be sweet? sounds & info would be sweet..
7. best place to get this item?
Cheers Guys!

heres a bump for you.
im also trying to find out about whether a twinloop + asr kit & swaybar combination is possible. im thinking of installing an xforce twinloop muffler (mugen replica), but a few local guys told me i wouldnt be able to fit the sway bar because of the twinloop setup.
to answer some of your questions, i dont think you would have trouble fitting spoon street and legalis r, as they are just a simple oval muffler. i also believe the twinloop would be the most quiet of all considering its 'twinloop' setup.

most exhaust shops can mod to fit it if you run into any clearance issues! =]

Ill have pics in a few weeks of the spoon street, with a vision b-pipe and TODA headers. Also on an ek4. From the research I have done the Spoon street, isn't really quiet, although sounds pretty tough and looks dam neat.
Ill post up the pics once it's all on.

my mugen twinloop fits with an asr and dc2r sway bar without hitting lowered so the rear fender is sitting on the top of the tyre
pretty sure the xforce twinloop muffler is bigger though

sorry man confused :p
"and dc2r sway bar without hitting lowered so the rear fender is sitting on the top of the tyre"
do you mean the axle pipe sitting on top of the lca and its not hitting the swaybar or endlinks, etc?
atm its hitting my bc3 axle and its annoying..
- so your mugen twinloop muffler doesn't hit anything wut so eva?
thx heaps..

just sayin'
ride height is 0 finger gaps between fender and rear tyre
my twinloop seems to clear everything without a problem though there isn't much space to move around

for the twinloops to fit onto ek with asr+swaybar the exhaust shop will have to modify the loop piping. imo get some decent headers and go for cheaper mufflers like xforce, from experience the xforce twinloop are very quiet on idle and low rpm.

hey simon...
i guess you are partly right.. coz i dont want to modify branded one such as muge, fujitsubo, spoon, etc.. would be a waste.. $$
might go for ek9 and see what happens..thx

can anyone tell me if the catback system with twinloop and a hi flo cat from xforce is a direct bolt on onto a 99 EK1 hatch back or does it require extra work such as welding etc? Im looking to get this set up since my catalytic converter is dead.
Thanks!

i got the catback, got it like 4 years ago so who knows on the price
no sound levels tested, and no idea how you'd describe an exhaust without hearing it in person

im quite sure xforce dont make anything lower than 2.25'' for their catbacks
ek1 has 1.75'' stock piping from memory so i think you will need to flange your cat from the stock header, but a decent exhaust shop would be able to fix it up for you easily

hey Vinny,
just want a rough estimate.. i mean is just a tad louder than oem? does it sound deep or kinda raspy... its amazing that your mugen doesnt hit anything.. coz i searched on the net and some say it hits the swaybar..
thx btw

well idle is all engine noise
at city speeds(1.5-4krpm) depending on amount of throttle it's fairly quiet
doesn't really drone
anything above 4krpm and you'll know it's there
at cruising speed you'll learn to hold the throttle at a certain place to make it not drone
i can carry a conversation without raising my voice while cruising without a problem
no need to bust out the doof doof to overpower the exhaust
