Hey guys,

I used to own a 2000 Galant VR4, and now, due to an unfortunate heavy rain + greasy road incident it is now a write-off! (I wasn't speeding, there was a cop who saw the whole thing too, not a neg driving incident)

So I'm in search of my perfect little Civic as a cheap car to enjoy for the next few months while I get all my finances back in order..

I'm not after anything really fast, and I know it won't compare in torque like the Twin Turbo VR4 did.. But I'm also trying to stick to a budget of under 10k!

I have found a EM1 Civic VTI for $8k (the coupe one?), but there are also VTI-R ones for $11-14k.. I haven't ever driven either one, but I LOVE the look of the Coupe.. Do you guys think it is worth me stretching my budget to get the VTI-R or will I not notice much difference between the two? :confused:

Thanks in advance for any advice on this decision making situation I have!

I've also considered an Integra VTI-R and a Prelude, but I'm not the biggest fan of the Prelude and I like the look of the Civic Coupe over the Integra!

-edit-
Oh, and I tried searching but all I found was kw figures, but I couldn't figure how it'd affect anything in the real world.. And how it'd affect the feeling of driving/acceleration/whatever!
I plan on test driving both, but I don't just want to be a test pilot and use peoples cars for that

vti = single cam

vtir = twin cam

theres a massive power difference man
if you have the dosh then go for the vtir.

VTIR coupe world of difference between models too much to list from subtle to obvious, unless you're after a cheap daily then the VTI is a good option, both are very good on fuel

VTIR (EM1) has more performance (much better engine) + better look (headlight, taillights, color coded and rims). and they only comes in manual.

If you gonna use it for daily drive, VTI (EJ8) would a better option.

for me, i would recommend you go with VTIR since you.'ve been driving VR4 all this time. and i believe em1 is easier to sell in the future

the EM1 (VTIR) has the B16a DOHC VTEC engine in it ... the B16a + b18c vtec engines are some of the best and most fun engines in the honda range ...

the EJ8 (VTI) has the D16 SOHC VTEC engine in it ... still a good engine but vtec + torque just isnt as good as the B16

there are also alot of other subtle bits of kit u get with the EM1 that u dont get on a EJ8 ... if u can try to get a desent EM1 with mid 100k kms on the clock at a good price ... give it some breathing intake/headers/exhaust and u will have a little screamer that will suprise u =)

very good in corners and the power to weight ratio will make it a formidable opponite to alot of opposition that wont expect it =)

good luck and enjoy
