my car is squeaking.

the noise is coming from the engine bay area. its like a spinning sqeaking sound, that seems to engage when i rev the car (for example to put into gear and get the car moving, i use clutch control). it seems prominent when im just in gear, not so much when its in neutral.

now when i turn the car off, u hear the same sound as the engine turns off. something that is spinning sqeaks to a halt.

what is it? what have i done?

:(

wat have u done son ! hard driving to blame ?!?

Maybe the "aftermarket" clutch has eaten into the flywheel alittle too much - leaving metals burrs - and they catch as u drive and leave the sqeaking noise ?!?Have u had the dizzy rebuilt yet ? Waaa got o Uncle robert la

I don't think it's the clutch/flywheel, because when he turns the car off he hears the same sound. I think it is morethan likely your alternator, power steering, A/C belt that has worn out and is slipping. Just change it and check all the bearings and everything should be fine.

Is it high pitched or low pitched? Does it affect the sound when you engage/disengage the clutch?

Sounds like a slipping fan belt to me - worlds second worst noise after a bitching female, but more annoying than nails on chalkboard

i went down about 15 minutes later and tried to replicate the noise, but it dissappeared.

engaging/disengaging the clutch didint change the noise. it was just a mid/high pitch sqeak.

my dizzy (along with my car lol) was taken to robert last week. he pulled my dizzy out, let it cool down, played with it, cameback to me and said, look theres nothing wrong. the chattering sound is still there usually when my car just starts cold. so i dunno what it is. robert sent me on my way. diidnt pay anything, even for his time.

Whoops, I needed a disclaimer...

Yeah, diagnosis only as good as explanation in this case

chattering *could* be valve clearances? when cold?

(yes - i did unsubscribe, but curiosity got the better of me, lol!)

LOL@Dave!

First you said your car is squeaking..........now its 'chattering' ?

Bit hard to diagnose as it could be two different things!

shut up wyn! lol

u like to correct all my posts yet u dont read them properly.

first i said it was sqeaking. then bren brought up, off topic that my dizzy was stuffed, and the chattering noise was there when i started the car up, but not so much after a while - hence bringing it to hannys.

then i said the sqeaking noise wasnt there anymore.

in regards to brens post, i cant show hanny the noise unless i bring it there in the morning, leave it parked there for a day.... and then start her up. cos by the time it gets the 50 kazillion-metres there, she doesnt chatter as much anymore. the chattering sound seems to come from the dizzy area, but also from inside the throttle body / injectors area. so the left and the back of the engine block. not on the right near the timing belt.

the injectors are meant to make a clicking sound,

the PCV valve is meant to make a ticking sound,

the valves usually make a chattering sound when cold...

ok so back to the sqeaking noise....

admittedly after some hard driving, mashing gears etc etc the noise came back. this time i took more care to take notice of it.

it seems dependant on the clutch going into / out of gears - so engaging and disengagin the clutch. the sound is actually like a thin thin thin spike of metal flake brushing against something that is obviously turning. i guess sorta like when somethings stuck in ur brake calipers and it just tickles the metal (if that makes sense).

what do u think? dying clutch? mashed gearbox? aiyah.. what have i done.

my car makes a moaning noise when it's cold too... usually in quiet parking lots near look outs on winters nights. what might that be?
