out of no where, it starts playing up a bit, it was sitting at 4k rpm on fwy doing 100km/h in fifth. usually it is on 3k

also when stationary, the rpm is at 0rpm. and the revv is all wrong compare to RSM and AFC neo.

any ideas? where is the sensor?

how to tell if the sensor's fault? or the cluster?

where is the location of the sensor?

I had a similar problem ages ago. Get some CRC circuit cleaner and spray the flexible circuit board on the back of the cluster. Use a cotton tip to clean away the shit from around the terminals and any that's crossing over multiple circuits.

i've had a jumpy and dead tacho issues before, turned out to be melted wiring in dizzy.

Yep. It got so bad it was at the point where the tacho wouldn't go over 2k rpm. cleaned all the built up residue off the back, especially around the tacho signal line and it's running perfect.

It's the blue wire in the harness plug that goes into the right of the tacho (looking at it from the back). Pin B8 on the diagram. It circles around for a bit and end's up at the screw behind the tacho. Make sure theres no shit built up around that.

If your RSM and Neo are working fine then it's more than likely going to be either the tacho itself or a bad signal going to the tacho ie faulty wiring, loose connection, interference in the circuit.

Try as 02gzm has said then work your way back ;)

Electrical contact cleaner and a cotton tip for scrubbing. You can get the contact cleaner from all over the place. Repco, Autobarn, Tandy, Dick Smiths, etc.
