Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!
Aim: Install an SMD/LED strip in the driver and passenger foot area. It will act like the dome light. Dim down when u turn on the car (doors close), turn on when doors open or when the car is unlocked or when u take out the key when u turn off the car.
Required: SMD/LED strip. Tape. Cost $10 for 2 strips. Well worth it for the finished product.
http://www1.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_5282_1.jpg
Steps:
1. Locate the fuse box under the driver side steering wheel
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4396/p2310091035.jpg
2.Feed the wires of the SMD/LED Up through the side and feed the wires to the fuse box
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1764/p231009103701.jpg
3. Locate the plug for the dome light. It is the plug next the the big yellow one and has 2 wires going into it.
4. Grab the 2 wires that you fed to the fuse box and connect it to the back of the plug. You should have enought room to shove more wires in. And test the + and - ends of the cable or the led wont turn on.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/7932/p2310091036.jpg
5. Repeat for the passenger side.
6. Peal off the adhesive on the Strip and apply it on your car.
http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/8202/p2310091037.jpg
7. Finished and now you can test it.

Mate that's awsome. good idea.
Now i just need to find the dome switch on my euro =p

It shouldn't be hard to find. If you trace back the wires coming from your dome light then it wont be hard to find.
If you don't have the plug like my jazz does. You can buy wire crimps and connect the SMD dirrectly to your dome light wires.
Once you know what wires to use, its easy after that. If not then you can just connect it to the switch on your door so the light will turn on only when the door is open.

Be careful not to bend the led srips too much, they will break the circuit quite easily. Nice one stylzjhn!

where do you buy the strips from?
stylzjhn

You can get it pretty much anywhere. Depends what type of strip you want. I got mine from a site called Deal Extreme. But postage from that site takes a while. 2 weeks+. But then again its free post. You can get a strip from JAYCAR. They have cuttable SMD strips. Brighter than the ones i got.
http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.LED%20strip
12V SMD LED Strip (30cm Blue) (the one i got)
Ebay sell the same ones for about the same price incl post.
I just installed a strip in my mates euro and a toyota corolla. Looks nice. Euro strip was from ebay (red). Corolla strip was from Jaycar (white)

I looked up the jaycar ones but seemed abit expensive considering it said $6.95 per strip and each strip has 3 leds and it takes 60 leds to make 1 meter. Are they any good like bright wise and bendable?

Well the ones at jaycar arent bendable. They are hell bright. I got like lets say 16 leds in my strip (Bendable) and my mate has the strip from jaycar. It cost $15 for a strip of 9 or was it 12 which are cuttable every 3 leds. We only used 6 leds for each side and it produces more light than my strip that has 16 leds.
The jaycar ones are SMD though. Bigger/Brighter bulbs. Imo go with the flexistrip, the Jaycar ones are brighter but they're not flexible.
And the flexible one produces more than enough light.

hey mate just a few questions, i took a look at my fusebox in my jazz and there seems to be a bunch of wires where the yellow plug is, which one am i suppose to plug it into exactly and also do i run any risk of blowing a fuse doing this?

You wont blow the fuse. LED's run low voltage/current. If you look at the 2nd photo (step one) you can see the big yellow plug on the left. The plug that you want to use (dome light) is the green plug next to it on the right of the yellow one. It should have 2 wires coming out of it.
This have been installed in a Honda jazz, Toyota Corolla, And a Civic ES with no problems (LED dimming effect). In the accord euro it was allot harder to locate the dome light plug so we wired the LED's to the door switches (No dimming effect).
Hope that helped.

maybe you have the polarity of the neon the wrong way?

turned out to be a fault with the transformer, grabbed another set and it was fine...
Just out of curiosity, how much would i be able to tap into it... because i want to put 4x neons and 2x leds strips... would that be an overkill and cause damage to my car?

Yeah make sure you got the polarity the right way around. Try it both ways. If not then you need to make sure that you still got the voltage controller box on the neon still.
Seen here (Blue Box). If you have those type of neons, you need the box to convert the 12v through your cigarette lighter to whatever power it needs to power the neons.

Very nice mate! Love it =)
so is the power to the dome lights 12V? Therefore, if I buy anything that requires 12V, I can tap it into the dome lights? (for dimming effect that is) =)
Anyone know where to plug the strips into for a civic FD1?

Would love to know the answer to this as well.
So how many things can you plug into the dome light fuse before blowing it?
I was thinking of running an led strip for front left and right as well as back left and right, and also 2 longer LED strips on the underbody of the car. So when I press the remote unlock, the underbody will shine and turn off when I start up the car. =) Woot!

I think the fuse can take quite allot of those LED strips/neons. It doesn't consume allot of power, well not enough to cause too much strain on the wires. But if you're scared of the fuse blowing, then just up it by 10A. The wires should be fine to take it.
As for where you need to tap in to on the fuse box, i wouldn't have a clue for your car, i've only done it in a civic ES, euro, jazz, and corolla. Best way is to find out where the cables from the dome light lead to on your fuse box. If you can trace it back to the fuse box you should be able to see where the plug is. If not then you'd have to get wire tappers and tap straight into the wires leading to the dome light.
Hope that helps. but i tend to know what to look for, thats why i can find it pretty easy.

i want to ask this question too. can you also do this via the fuse box? me and my friend are trying to do it, but we;re not sure if u can draw power from the fusebox, or we have to splice wires to access power. can u plug wires directly into fuses?

How do I find the wires leading to the dome light?
Just attempted the DIY and failed miserably, lights just constantly stayed on :o

From another post, someone mentioned that you can buy a fuse tap to tap into the fuse box.
Maybe something like these?

Sometimes (depending on car) you'll have to take the cover on the driver side front pillar bar off to see where the wires are leading too from the dome light. Usually it should be 2-3 wires. I think the colours are green, brown and something else i forgot. If you can follow those wires down, you might be lucky enough to see it lead to a plug of some sort down under the dash or towards the fuse box. If you can't locate the plug, you might need to just buy some wire tappers and tap the wires you found on your pillar bar.
For those who are asking if you can get power directly from the fuse. You can do this but you need to connect the grounding cable of the LED to the switch located on the center chassis beam thing between the drivers/passenger doors (when the door closes it hits the switch). Connecting it to that switch allows the light to turn on and off when the door is open/closed but you will lose the dimming effect.
Hope this answers some questions.
So far i've been able to do this to a Jazz, Civic ES, Euro (no dimming effect, connected to door switch), Corolla, CRV, and Imprezza
half of those cars i had to pull panels off. But that was easy since its just plugs (:
how did you hook up the ones from outside/under your car to the fuse box o_o

Are you asking me? because i only did the footwell and the doors. It was a B**** to do the doors because feeding the wires through was hard. Had to take the whole door apart. but it looked awesome having light under the doors when it opened.

Hi, i dont have a euro. I just plugged the (+) from the LED into the dome light fuse and the (-) on the switch on the door. So everytime the door is opened the lights will turn on (no dimming effect)

Yeah, if you connect the negative to the switch on the door, it will only activate when that specific door is open.
On my car, the dome lights normally turn on when I unlock the car, but since I've wired up the LED to the dome lights, the LEDs also light up when I unlock the car - this won't happen if you wire up the negative to the door

im guessing a dome light is the little light found on doors, middle of roof and in the boot. ok heres my idea, say if i only wanted LEDs and couldnt give a sh*t about the original little tiny light, dont i just hook the wires that used to go to the light to my new LEDs? but if i wanted both to work could i just strip the wire and add another wire to it so that one wire leads to two lights? e.g
-----(x)=====
"-" is my single original wire which i used to have going to the light, "(x)" this is where i stripped it and "=" my two new wires going off into LEDs, lights, neons or w.e

Yup that is correct. Either way would work.
So long as the LED's/NEONS are 12v.

how do u extend the passenger smd lights to the fuse box? what sort of wire do u need to extend it?
What you need is just the normal wire that you get at Jay car, it cost around $1.5-$2.0 per meter depends on the thickness of the wire !!!
Also the wire just go through the fuse box and it should come out under the grove box or your own way as long as you don't see the wire and for the rear you just need to take out the plastic rubber around the door let the wire go through to the rear.......I did mine one and it looks good !!!

I just completed this DIY on my FD2 Sport. Best mod I have done so far. Looks awesome with that blue 'glow'. It's not too bright and after market looking, just a soft even glow which looks like a factory install.
I also added a white LED strip to the under side of each door. When you open the door it lights up the ground, like a factory courtesy light. I connected all 8 strips to the dome light so they fade when doors are closed. Have had all the lights on for over 45 minutes as a test. Did not drain the battery, nor blow any fuses. I have also changed the inerior dome bulbs to white LED's which use a fraction of the power ordinary bulbs use. I think this is the reason the load is not high.
Anyways, here are some pics (taken on my phone, no where near as good as the real thing). I haven't taken any of the under door light yet.

put a volt meter to the brown wire. I think u should wire the power from the brown wire as the brown wire send signal to the dash to tell you the door isn't close. so connecting to brown wire should only light up when u open the door.

Why not just wire up to your actual dome light? That way it fades in and out with the dome light.
