Hey, my name is James and I'm fairly new to OzHonda. I own a 2004 Honda Accord Euro Luxury. I have only had the car about 2 months and I have already noticed issues with the clutch. Its seems to be clutch shudder. In first gear it shudders at about 1500-3000 RPM then its fine, not a problem while the car is in motion. The car has done about 80,XXX KMS.

Can anyone please tell me if I need a whole new clutch kit or if the problem can be fixed without changing the clutch? What causes this problem? How much will it cost to fix?

Thanks alot.

Mate, too hard to tell unless I'm in the car with you,

It could be as simple as getting your clutch fluid changed, as it may not be releasing or engaging the clutch properly,

Or, the person before you might have been a clutch burner and has warped your fly-wheel, or even was a person that kept the clutch pedal down while sitting at the lights and the car in gear, this has then damaged the bearing...

If it shudders as you are saying, and it is worst case scenario, you will need a new clutch kit, including pressure plate etc (might as well), and get the flywheel machined.. if it can't be machined due to excessive damage and heat warping, you'll be up for another flywheel... (hunt down a lightened one, these Euro's are deadly slow, any performance gain is a bonus)..

p.s you live nearby me, I can give you my mechanic's details if you want, the most honest / best priced guy, and will help you out if you throw my name into the equasion :) he's in Rockdale.. get him to suss it out, and he'll give you an honest answer straight up, (He's a Jap car specialist)..

Thanks alot mate, I will probably just replace the whole lot so there is no headaches later on ... I rang Collins Honda at rockdale and they quoted me $1400.00 installed. I would appreciate it you could post the details of the mechanic you know, just to compare prices. Thanks again.

$1400.00 isn't bad from a Honda service centre.I service my car there and have always found their pricing reasonable.

I'm always against service centres doing anything on my car a they are all year 10 dropout apprentices from my own personal experience, no prob for a commo or falcon, but not for my Jap cars..

Only bloke I ever trust is Indy at IS MOTORACING,

He is a top bloke, let him know Brendan with the euro sent you down to him, 9599 9918.. When you see his workshop you'll know why I trust him..

I reckon no more than $900-$1100 for a complete change depending on the clutch you want.. And same day, no hassle, and guaranteed good job.

His shop is in the street across from fitness first in rockdale on west botany street...

80ks sounds early to me unless the car has been tracked every now and then.

If the car was driven conservatively, clutch doesn't need to be changed for a long time. Definitely 100km+ and more.

Dang, $1k+ for a new clutch? I got my Exeedy HD put into my NX Coupe for around $550 - clutch kit, gearbox oil and rear main seal for $330ish and labour (Ultratune) + machining of flywheel for $230.

I'm not looking forward to when the Euro's clutch gets worn out!

i don't think you can compare the price, and i am sure you need to remove the sub frame for removing the gearbox. that is not an easy job. I got a quote $700 just for install. i am living in Perth. anyone know somewhere cheaper in Perth. pls let me know.

Mine is on it's way out @ 98,xxx kms with daily commute city driving + 1 track and many weekend twisty cruises.

Any guys tried the ACT clutch kit from the U.S for CL7/CL9?
